This is the one I was referring to.
Now I remember why I didn't see that movie....   :-X

Courtney

Wow, never saw that poster.  Loved the movie though.

You want my opinion? No? Well i'm giving it to you anyway. I think since we've had so many awful comedies in the past 10 years that our expectations are so low that anything that is marginally funnier than epic movie is automatically labeled as "The comedy event of the year" by anyone and everyone who considers themselves to be the shrewdest of movie reviewers.

Doktor Sleepless

The last good comedy movie I saw was probably weirdsville.
Round about now! Since they say! I am the sexiest man in Jamaica!

See I agree, but only to a certain extent.  Yes, up until recently, we've had many terrible comedies.  But in the past couple years, basically starting with Anchorman, comedy's been back on the upswing.  Hence why Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, and Adam Sandler can't open like they used to.  While they've each had some great and deserved success, audiences won't eat up just everything they dish out anymore.  This gives me hope.  Maybe, just maybe, we as a nation will say no to Seltzer and Friedman.

I dunno.... I didn't think Anchorman was that grand. The likes of Steve Carrell, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen,  could never stand up against the likes of Monty Python, The Marx Brothers or the subtle brilliant performance of Robert Hayes in Airplane. Frankly, I think comedy is done best when it's dark. For once I'd also like to see people in comedies act like anything but complete buffoons. Why can't they act intelligent and cleverly? I think that's my problem. People acting like idiots hardly seems refreshing to me after all these years.

Doktor Sleepless

"People love Monty Python so much because they've seen the tiny fraction of sketches that don't completely suck."

^^^smart brit friend of mine said that.

Doctor Who?

What are you talking about?

I have seen almost every episode and I love about 90% of the sketches.

Monty Python is(IMO)the greatest comedy ever made.

Tripe

Yeah, while I don't quote it all the time like some people, I do own the complete scripts and really it's all mostly good.

Courtney

The fact is people can say "comedy's not as good as it used to be" until they're blue in the face, and it's just not true.  I mean, at the same time you had Python, you had Mama's Family.  At the same time you have 40 Year Old Virgin (which I think is really one of the best comedies around) you had Scary Movie 3 or whatever.  There's always been good stuff, there's always been shit.

Tripe

Oh yes that's absolutely true, good comedy is really difficult to do, but mediocre shite comedy is piss easy.
