I'm not a fan of Shia even being in the movie but I liked it.  The sandpit scene was classic.  I wasn't expecting it to be as good as Last Crusade, which is the best in the series IMHO.  It was fun.

Side note, my movie going experience would have been better if we hadn't been seated next to the lady with the 8 and 12 year old kids.  She spent the whole time telling the kids about the other 3 movies because they hadn't scene them.  Why the hell would you take anyone to the 4th movie in a series without having them at least know something about the first 3 fucking films.

That is weird, its not like the first three movies are hard to find.  The only reason I haven't seen this yet is we're making sure to watch all three of the old ones since one roommate hasn't seen them in years and barely remembers them.

Oh, I didn't know what she was talking about.  Yeah--the knight said "don't cross the seal."

They did. Ergo...

oh i see. well what would be the point of being immortal if you had to live in a cave with no internet?

Also remember that you had to keep drinking from the grail to maintain your immortality.  That's why the knight still grew old and became weak, now and again he would refrain from drinking for a day and would grow much older.

Umm... where are you getting that from?  I just watched the movie last night and I don't remember them mentioning that you have to keep drinking from the grail to live forever.  Is that in the novelization or something?

Hmm, just rewatched it myself, and I maybe I was hallucinating.  I could have sworn there was some dialog from the knight explaining that in moments of weakness he would refrain from drinking from the cup and would pay the price in growing older and weaker.  I did read the novelization many years ago, so that might be where I'm getting it.

The only reason given in the movie that could explain how Indy and his father could die is indeed the great seal being "the boundary and the price of immortality."

So much anger.

To me...aliens, angels...potato, potato.

that's pretty much me too

Ditto.

Same bag of made up stuff.

Also: CGI = animated Ark ghosts.  Same difference.  Still not real.  Just a special effect.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

I think one of my major gripes was that the comedy felt too slapsticky in this movie. You know the scenes with Kate Capshaw where she's running around the jungle in Temple of Doom with all the critters on her that were so outlandishly over exaggerated? That's what the comedy was like, way too over the top. I like the more subtle humor, like Indy pulling out a gun and shooting the guy in Raiders after the elaborate swordplay.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

As opposed to the subtle and nuanced humor in Last Crusade? The head-clunking three-stooges-esque wit?

Seriously, guys. Yeah, it's probably not as good as the others on the whole, but it's not some weird alien* thing.  It's still Indiana Jones.

*pun intended.

Well, to be fair the Indy movie I like the most, and is the one I watch if inclined to do so is Raiders of the Lost Ark. I've found the other two sequels aren't as good as when I first saw them as a kid in the theater because of that slapstick of which you speak of.

Doctor Who?

SPOILERS BELOW!

Where do I begin? Well, I must say that the movie was an adventure. I felt completely alone and unable to defend myself against the movie's campiness. The movie foreshadowed. I sat there thinking to myself in the first few scenes, "I don't remember Indiana Jones being this much of a smartass". The movie gave us peeks into the film's great potential to crap all over itself. The Arc of the Covenant, the refridgerator, the magnetic chase through the building...all made me think to myself, "Well, that's kind of stupid, but in Star Trek-esque fashion, I'll gladly ignore it because I know that they're just setting up for another great Indiana Jones adventure!". I had this kind of baseless optimism until the "climax", if you're following my plotline / crappiness metaphor. The one single moment in the movie where I gave up all hope and just had to laugh at it and its slow death. That was when Mutt was thrown out of the car and into the trees (yes, I even made it through the rapier fight and the nutshot gag without fully doubting the movie). Mutt looked over and made eye contact with a monkey. I said, out loud, to myself, "No, movie. Don't do it! Don't do it!" but it did ... Mutt called upon the woodland creatures to help Indiana Jones...*sigh* To make matters worse, he starts swinging through the jungle like Tarzan and I almost shed a tear for the great name that was being soiled. The movie went on to surprise me with its stupidity and how stupid it apparently thought we all were. We like not being as smart as Indiana Jones. We like him solving puzzles we could never even dream of figuring out ourselves. We like him being this romanticized, academic adventurer! When there is a connection to be made in the movie and the audience sees it before Indiana Jones, no problem. Don't draw a lot of attention to it. No such luck. Thinking back to the scene in the temple where Indy is comparing the shape of the crystal skull to the shape of the head in the painting, the scene dragged on for what seemed an eternity. It could have been done in a quick camera sweep. We all know, unless we just walked in, the shape of the skull and we all made the connection. Thank you! Overall, the movie was fun, at times, but I think the most fun I had during the movie was thinking about how great a RiffTrax it's going to make.

Wow that sounds even worse then Star Wars Episode 1.

I don't think i will even rent it now.

I can only live through one episode one in my life time.

Doctor Who?

I don't know Jungle animals coming to help Indy/!

Wasn't that gag in Duck Soup?

I have been really looking forward to this movie but everything I hear from people who have seen it sounds bad,I would rather not have the first three movies ruined by a bad sequel made 20 years after the fact.

Doctor Who?

I have trouble enjoying the first three Star Wars movies now that I have seen episode one.

So I am scared of this movie.

I don't want another francise I grew up with ruined.
