didn't care for lileks either...thought weird al was okay.  troll 2 was decent. and willard would probably be 2nd after nph (or willard and harris tie...willard had the more difficult movie).

maybe i misread, does the topic only ask for positive feedback?

Yeah, you're totally wecome to state your opinion, but you seemed to really like the Willy Wonka riff, for example, you didn't bother to register and say so, or even to just participate on the board, but instead to register and say that you didn't like Matthew. Totally legit, more power to you etc, but still, you will come off as the crank who walked out of the woods and yelled "YOU SUCK" at the towns people, and then wandered away.

But, in all seriousness, welcome!

Meanwhile, I LOVED Lileks' riff, which we watched for the first time the other night. I think it might even be my new favourite Rifftrax, knocking Firewall from it's former top-spot.

I thought this was pretty funny for a new unproven guy, especially given the choice of movie. He is definately my favourite non mst3k alumni riffer, maybe  I am biased for being a fellow Brit!I look forward to hearing from him again, preferably with one or more of the main 3.Not particularly bothered about the other guests unfortunately but I will usually give anyone they choose a chance.

Now that we have a new regular riffer with no ties to MST3K, I wonder if we'll be seeing more newbies in the near future. Is Conor going to join in on a recording anytime soon?

Pak-Man

I'd like to see an all-mod riff with Torgo's Pizza, Connor and Riffmartian. :^)

It's just an unfortunate way to introduce yourself, especially since you've clearly been a RiffTrax fan for a while.  Nothing technically wrong with it; you broke no rules.  It does, however, give people a bad (and, I assume, inaccurate) first impression of you as a complainer rather than a constructive contributor.  You don't go into a new job and before shaking hands, tell everyone how messy the office is -- at least, I hope you wouldn't.  Just like that, people's reactions have nothing whatever to do with the technical fairness of your comment (which would have been accurate if the office was, in fact, messy), and everything to do with the more intangible art of managing people's impressions of you while still retaining the freedom to criticize.  (And a semi-snarky reaction when your coworker says he thinks that's an odd way to introduce yourself wouldn't really help his impression of you, either.)

Welcome to the boards, though!  Feel free to join in.  We won't hold it against you if you didn't like something (but we reserve the right to think your introduction sucked).  And take a little time to leave a couple of posts about what you have liked, too, because it's always nice to hear fresh feedback of both kinds.  It helps Mike et al. know what people enjoy (and what they don't).  Write an introductory post for the Welcome to RiffTrax section, too, if you're so inclined.  I know it can be hard to sum yourself up like that and I usually don't write them either, but if you want to, go for it.  It's nice to know a little about the new faces around here.

your preconceived notions are what i need to worry about? maybe you should just go the extra mile and take more posts at their face value? "but we reserve the right to think that your introduction sucked" what does that even mean? why should that even matter? are we arguing about me or about a riff? and i should leave positive feedback for the things i liked? i should? you're telling me what to do on a message board? what ridiculous presumption. you're trying to explain the psychology of message board community interaction. and you know, i really really know that you're trying to be helpful. but jesus, dude.

also, that's twice that it's Lecture followed by Welcome. and one shot at my initials (although in fairness, it is hard to pass up the "bm" part of things). the reaction i'm getting from just stating an asked for opinion is pretty brilliant, really. is someone going to go next to try to better explain what i should have done in this post? hey dude, you're fat and ugly, but welcome! enjoy the board.

and still, constructive criticism should only be positive? or it can be negative only if it applies to how a person posts? or it should only be positive up to a certain post count number? do i need to establish my fan credibility first (is joel one of the robots? why don't those guys keep quiet during the movies?)?

look, i'm sorry, but i just can't get over how stupid this all seems to me.

now, finally...back on topic - eliot/dark water. didn't care for it...he'll probably get another shot...but it'll be dependent on whatever else (other than HofW) he does. yep, i assessed him a one (for now) movie suspension. i didn't find him funny...i thought his talking over other people talking was annoying (pointless, couldn't hear him...couldn't hear them, just heard noise). though i acknowledge he might have picked a bad movie to start off with (but maybe he should be knocked extra for trying to polish that turd).

An impossible task!

Nobody said that constructive = positive.  There's nothing wrong with your opinion, but if it's your first post, it might have been a good idea to say, "Hey, I've been a fan for a long time and I've seen a bunch of riffs, and had a lot of laughs.  This one didn't do it for me, though, and here's why..."

You're right, though, that this is stupid.  I'm dropping it.  Welcome to the boards, and that's that.

BM: You asked.

EEE! I got my Dark Water DVD in the mail yesterday, even though Amazon told me it would be 6 - 8 weeks! I know a certain Amazon merchant who is getting positive feedback!

I have made plans to watch it this Sunday night!

i asked a rhetorical question. is it so hard to admit that you're wrong and apologize?

You seem to be having a hard time with it so far.

i'm sorry that i'm right and that you can't accept it...but i'm not surprised. i state my case and you say "nyah, you're wrong!"...so, whatever, dude. just because you think something should be a certain way (i.e., someone's first post) doesn't mean it should. so, now i'm going to mosey on over to the two towers and talk about how much i hated it.

Cool.  Have fun BM!   ;)
