Since this guy is basically newest to the ranks (in the way i like to think of it anyways) can sometell me how he does and can you give me any comparisons?

He's a British mystery author. He's also done some radio plays as well. His Myspace page is over here.

That being said, I've never heard of him either. But I don't exactly follow British mystery authors. But I'll give him a listen as soon as my copy of Dark Water gets here.

I don't buy RiffTrax to hear some guy I've never heard of make fun of movies. I'm not going to spend my money on something that doesn't have involvement of at least one MST3K alum.

If I set up a website where I started doing riffing, nobody would go there because people pay for this to hear Mike, Kevin, and Bill -- not just some fan imitating them, whoever he may be.

Pak-Man

That, I'm guessing, is why it's only a buck 99 and not being released under the regular Rifftrax banner. I'm willing to give this guy a shot. I'll have to rent Dark Water tomorrow. Tonight I'm watching Kevin and Bill take on this Star Trek thing. :^)

If there's one thing I learned with the James Lileks/Spider-Man 3 riff, is that I should completely trust Rifftrax when they invite someone over to the family. I'll be checking this new guy ASAP.

RoninFox

I gave the sample a look and it's convinced me I need to take a closer look.  I'm with Greg on this one, if the folks at Rifftrax say this guy's funny he's at least worth giving a shot.

In the last 48 hours I've teetered on the fence about this one. First I said "no...I'm only going to watch something that has an mst-alumni in it, in some shape or form". But now I'm thinking..."Maybe".
We'll see...  :-\

Gammer, let me ask you a hypothetical question:

If the person doing the riffing was someone that you recognized, say Joe Bob Briggs or Bruce Campbell, would that change your mind?

skenderberg

I'll get it.  It's on Rifftrax, and I'm a completist.  Hopefully it'll be good.
I thought I was Dale.

If anyone tries to rent this from Blockbuster - they have it in the Drama section not Horror.

I'd be in the same boat. I don't know why I'm being closed minded here...but I really only want to deal with mst-alumni. It could be just 1 mst-alumni and several "others"...but there has to be a mst-tie in. Man, I'm a loser  :P

MrTorso

For me it has to be funny.  I gave the sample a try and it really didn't hook me in at all. Maybe a longer sample is in order for the unknowns.  I bought the ICWXP disc after watching about 5 minutes of the riffing and there are no MST alumnus there either.

Yeah, the sample did nothing for me, but that's because it was a "rant" as opposed to "jokes." If it's the only "rant" in the movie, it should be fine.

amityisland

After watching the sample, I kinda liked it - but then again I'm a sucker for British accents ;). If I already owned the DVD or if it were a movie I was more familiar with I'd probably buy the rifftrax sooner, but I'll wait and see how others liked it before buying the rifftrax and renting the movie... House of Wax peaks my interest a bit more though.

I hear what you're saying and it's a valid viewpoint.  But personally I have nothing against new sanctioned riffers.  The only reason I'm not buying it is that solo riffers leave me cold no matter WHO they are.  Team him up with someone else and I'm there at least once.  More if they don't suck.
