I've seen enough women in movies walk out of the scene for petty reasons to know it's a terrible cliche. And if they also look like a stuffed dog won at a carnival sideshow game, forget it. MJ was a selfish bitch in this movie, and that's not coming from the side of me that resents women. She was really upset that Peter was being supportive of her career because she wanted to feel crappy instead. Hmm, maybe get a cat instead of a boyfriend? I dunno. She's really jealous of Spider-Man's popularity even though she wants to be a famous Broadway actress. She's suddenly suicidal because she doesn't sing loud enough when all she ever wanted was to be an actress. Newsflash: there are probably other roles that don't involve singing. You don't see real actors bitching about their faults. They do what they're good at. She accuses Pete of pushing her away when he takes her out to dinner. Sounds like she was already out to lunch! What happened to "I love you so much"? She didn't seem to even LIKE him in this movie, even at the end! She just wanted to use him as a scratching post, or a snot rag... or... one of those fake TIME Magazine covers with your picture in it... but whatever, I'm still trying to figure out the copy machine Maxim shoot.

If Peter's a woman, then he's a lesbian, which probably makes MJ a gay man.

Well while I agree with your interpretation of Mary Jane, Peter did forget (whoops) that he first kissed Mary Jane upside down and also that you don't kiss other women on national television and then propose to your girlfriend like nothing happened.  If he had some symbiotic alien goo on him that made him act like an incompetent boob that might have explained it.

Well I'm positive he wouldn't since it was his first ever kiss to a non-related woman.

Isn't that because Raimi didn't want Venom in the script?

That's still no reason to treat Venom like absolute shit, am I correct? Peter Jackson didn't like the Army of the Dead from the LOTR trilogy but he still put them in his movies (Even beefed up their significance in Return of the King because originally they only fought the Corsairs along with Aragorn to commandeer their ships, not eliminate Sauron's Army at Minas Tirith.) because the fans wanted them in the movie.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Yeah, they should have made Venom a good guy and had him team up with Peter to fight New Goblin. That would have been a MUCH better movie.

I don't think that would have worked. Venom's biggest problem nowadays was that they tried to make him a hero instead of the gritty villain he started out as. Yes, Venom does have a twisted sense of honor, but he's no goody two shoes. In early comics he would kill an "innocent" if he got in his way of destroying Peter Parker. Not quite good guy mannerisms eh? Venom is best when he hates Spidey's guts and wants to kill him, instead of making peace with the webhead. What I think should have happened is that they introduced Eddie Brock and saved Venom for a sequel with a new director (Like Guillermo Del Toro or Zack Snyder.) who'd be willing to respect the character. Raimi should have stuck to his guns and told Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin that he was not going to use a character he couldn't satisfactorily portray. Vulture should have been left in and Venom jettisoned from the script entirely.

Venom doesn't deserve any respect, he's an exploited piece of clothing.

Well, you won't gain my friendship by saying that to me. If you read my posts you know I've been a Venom fan since his inception in the 80's and inflammatory statements like that do not inspire respect from me.

I'm heartbroken, really. But it's true nonetheless. Venom is pretty to look at, like stylish clothing, and just as shallow. Exactly as he was created. You can retcon a costume all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a marketing gimmick. If you're a Venom fan, then you take what Venom you can get. If there was any one way to do Venom, he wouldn't have been around so long that they had to make him into an anti-hero and create a bunch of spinoff symbiotes. Even Marvel didn't know what to do with a sack of old clothes once the novelty wore off. Though if they ever want to do a "What If... Spidey Went to Oz," Venom would make the perfect Scarecrow.

true, and though I don't understand anything past the words "Peter Jackson didn't like the" I think I know what your point is, and I agree with it.

Hmm, have you ever thought of cutting a record? I smell "hit single" and with your rhyming skills, Eminem's one Oscar will be small potatoes compared to what we could do. Stick with me, kid. I'll make you a star. Okay okay, "stars." What do you think about grills?

Aye, I agree. I'd have rather seen Venom left out of the movie entirely and held over for possibly another installment of the franchise to be portrayed correctly than the screen-minimal mockery he is for being included in Spiderman 3. Raimi's a seasoned director and he should have followed his gut on this one. Kind of the same policy with riffing. Better to have silence than bad riffs.

As for Mary Jane acting like she's the center of the universe in this movie, I can say that with most women (myself included), when one horrible thing happens to you, it sets the tone for everything else and it begins to snowball. A great day can be ruined by one little thing and suddenly everything falls apart. Stuff that normally wouldn't bug you (aka Peter's unmentioned lab partner) annoy the hell out of you and suddenly everything sucks, no matter what it is. Had perhaps Mary Jane not gotten fired from the broadway show, she might have been able to deal with Peter kissing Gwen a little more sanely. For her, it was bad thing after bad thing and coupled with Peter's insensitive behavior, reacted the only way she could. Sorry guys, but there are things women can't just shrug off as well as you.

And Mary Jane could have also been on the rag.  ;D
