So after we've listed every movie ever made, how are we gonna whittle this down? :^)

bratpop

Why don't we just skip it and declare MSTK: The Movie the winner? At least until Rifftrax: The Movie comes out.

Ok so many were already taken, buts here's  some more. I linked to the exact one I mean on number 7 because I don't want it to be confused with the remake of Here Comes Mr Jordan from 1978

1: Kind Hearts and Coronets
2: Inherit the Wind
3: Curse of the Cat People
4: Brighton Rock
5: Dog Day Afternoon
6: True Grit
7: Heaven can Wait
8: Soylent Green
9: Lone Star
10: Daughters of the Dust

I'm just glad you linked to the Lubitsch version of Heaven Can Wait, rather than the execrable Warren Beatty one.   :)

Ok, since I'm going to be busy most of the day tomorrow, I'm going to post the Preliminary Polls in a few minutes. There was a total of 269 Movies nominated, so to make it an even 280 I checked IMDB's top 250 and added the top 11 movies not already nominated. For those curious, they were

Godfather Part II, The
Psycho
Fight Club
Leon (The Professional)
Amelie
There Will Be Blood
Departed, The
Paths of Glory
To Kill A Mocking Bird
Third Man, The
Chinatown

SO! There will be 4 separate polls, each consisting of 70 entries. You will be allowed to vote for 10 movies on each one (a total of 40 each), and the clear top 15 movies from each poll will go on to the first round, as well as 4 random movies that did not go through. In short:

Pool A: 15 winners, 1 random
Pool B: 15 winners, 1 random
Pool C: 15 winners, 1 random
Pool D: 15 winners, 1 random
= 64 movies.

Keep in mind the number of votes will also determine how each movie is seeded for the match ups.

Here we go!

Amelie

Ah well shucks, for some reason I thought that had been listed so I didn't suggest it.  Ah well, glad it's on the list now!

RoninFox

Looking forward to participating in this.  I didn't nominate anything, because frankly by the time I thought of some and came back here all of them were already up.

Great lists everybody! I'm a big fan of 'most' of your choices.

A lot of my top ten were chosen for me (Matrix, Night of the Living Dead, Usual Suspects, Lord of the Rings 2 Office Space,Pulp Fiction) and some of my second tier choices  (Gattaca, The Shining)  ... I love seeing The Good the Bad the Ugly, Die Hard, Cannibal the Musical, Boondock Saints, Dawn of the Dead, Eternal Sunshine..., Hero, ID4, Memento, American History X) + there are the obvious movies that I'm glad you guys didn't forget Godfather, Star Wars, and T2. All the recent films really surprised me and its good to see 'present day' getting some love (The Prestige, The Departed, ATHF, 3:10 to Yuma remake) And finally several movies had to be left off this (tough/impossible) list (honorable mentions given)

enough with the stalling this is my list.

1. Evil Dead
2. Dark City
3. Donnie Darko
4. Pitch Black
5. L.A. Confidential
6. Final Destination 2
7. Scream
8. Shaolin Soccer
9. Enemy at the Gates
10. The One

honerable mentions (don't forget these!) Jurassic Park, Cube, Cabin Fever, The Crow, Ninja Scroll, A Christmas Story, Running Scared, Black Sheep, Enter the Dragon

Raven

I thought we had til tomorrow.  Here's ten from me

Fight Club
Death to Smoochy
Last Castle
12 monkeys
Apocalypse Now
American President
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Being John Malkovich
Die Hard with a Vengeance

Minnesota

You only chose 8 and I just picked Dark City (Greg hasn't updated the list yet)
