It's one of those cultural things, I suspect. I find a lot of stuff that comes out of Japan utterly mind-boggling and unintelligible.

Can anyone give me an example of the Daddy Day Camp joke?

(My personal favorite) In Jurassic Park, when Malcom looks at the giant heap of dino-dung and says, "What a huge piece of ****!" Mike says, "There's a poster for Daddy Day Camp on the other side of that mound."


It's one of those things that you don't notice until someone calls it to your attention, then it leaps out at you every time it happens. :^)

Where are these Schnappi jokes? I can't for the life of me imagine how you can make a joke about that weird thing. Maybe I've heard one and thing they say Trumpy, referring to that alien MST3K.

I, for one, am more than tired of the Daddy Day Camp / According to Jim / Who's Your Caddy bashing. THEY'RE BAD. WE GET IT. They've become such stock jokes, they show up multiple times in each episode.

Think of it this way: those references have become a kind of shorthand, indicating a benchmark, if you will, for low quality. It's kind of like the Coleman Francis references on MST3K.

I still like the According To Jim jokes cuz that show is offensive to me on a subatomic level.  It triggers primordial terrors.  Like a sensory depravation chamber.

I'm picturing you watching According To Jim, and running out into the street like William Hurt in Altered States...
