i feel this one needs to be done again so i am going to do it "Right" this time

Top five tv cops.
1. Lennie Briscoe
2. Det. Robert Goren
3. Monk
4. Andy Taylor
5. Barney Fife

top reasons you disagree or agree with this list (or a combo of the two)
Okay...I'll give ya' the first one -- Lennie is/was/always will be #1.

2.  T.J. Hooker -- it's SHATNER for crying out loud!!  It didn't say the "Top 5 best and most effective TV Cops," so T.J. gets a nod.  Goren is a great character, but he doesn't have the fanboy clout T.J. does.

3.  Monk vs. Barney Miller -- depends what era you grew up in.  I love the show Monk -- but I grew up with Barney and Fish and the guys.  Besides, Abe Vigoda's supporting character in the series makes bonus points for Barney (Miller, that is).

4.  Joe Friday -- when was the last time you heard anyone quote anything Andy Taylor said??  "Just the facts."  Say that and you're golden anywhere in the world!  (On a personal note, there are a bunch of "aww-shucks" cops around where I live and I can't stand them.)  Yeah, Opie grew out of his awkwardness and became Ritchie and then directed a bunch of films -- but I don't count those as bonus points.

5.  Barney Fife vs. Theo Kojak -- again, mostly depends on (1) when you grew up, (2) where you grew up, and (3) how much you like bald guys.  Barney wasn't a cop -- he was a deputy.  Kojak has the trademark, "Who loves ya', babe?" catchphrase that's well recognized, gaining bonus points.  Barney only had 1 bullett and couldn't even keep Otis the town drunk in line.  My vote stays with Kojak.

Back to my original suggestion -- Top 5 70's dance moves...

I kinda lost track of Monk after the first couple of seasons... but I don't think he was a cop. Wasn't he fired as a cop and doing freelance jobs trying to get re-hired by proving he wasn't crazy? Maybe a technicality... but trying to do it "right" and then listing a guy who isn't even a cop at number three... well... for shame!
