Doctor Who?

You and me both.

The Alien conspiracy always worked best when it was a subplot for a scary monster story IMHO.

QuoteAccording to a MovieWeb scooper, director Chris Carter and the rest of the team behind the "X-Files" sequel have been trying to confuse fans in order to stop them from figuring out the plot. On January 22nd, several on set photos have leaked showing Carter playing with a prop that the FX guys came up with. The prop happened to be the head of a werewolf, which immediately sparked rumors that the new movie will head in that direction.

Similar to what other directors have been claiming to do, Michael Bay with "Transformers 2" and Christian Nolan with "The Dark Knight," Carter is doing his best to keep the plot a secret and attempting to discourage fans from piecing together the story before the film hits theaters.

So I guess we're back to the beginning. As far as the plot, all we have to go by is the fact that "X-Files 2" will be a stand-alone story and supernatural thriller that takes the complicated relationship between Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) in new directions.

As an avid X-Files fan, I *really* hope RiffTrax releases the X-Files first movie in conjunction with the release of the new X-Files movie in the theaters.

How 'bout WHO CARES? People knew the plot of The Phantom Menace before it came out, but it didn't suck because of that. It sucked on its own steam, just like another X-Files movie will. Hey, morbid prediction - Duchovny dies after shooting wraps on this. I dunno, I just sense it. This is pretty much "your career ends here" for anyone involved. When you start going backwards instead of forwards, there's just no point anymore. This is like the Brady reunion special of movies. Wasn't failing once enough? What are they gonna do, put transformers and pirates in the movie? Nothing will make The X-Files popular again. It's just so '90s. The only thing more ill advised I could think of would be a Seinfeld movie. Or maybe ALF.

However, Rifftrax thanks you once again, Hollywood.

Well I for one am looking forward to this movie, bratpop. I'm not gonna damn this movie yet till there's more details. Who knows, maybe it will do extremely well.

I think they realize ANOTHER boring Alien conspiracy movie would be "direct to DVD" so they wont go that way.

I am sad it wont be a wairwulf movie though.    That would have been absolutely fascinating.

Other than the guaranteed failure of another Alien ripoff movie, is there really anything else in the X-Files that would be any less of a failure? See, the problem with the X-Files is the "heroes" are just about useless. They're not Ghostbusters, they're not Men in Black, they don't know magic, they don't have special tools or weapons. The X-Files is merely a pretense for a horror/sci-fi anthology series like The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone, except the same two people investigate all these different stories. The only thing another movie can do is rip off other movies. The original ideas that the X-Files had were all pretty ridiculous. The guys walking around with their mouths and eyes sewn shut so the evil black alien liquid couldn't possess them? I mean WTF was that? Can anyone explain that? If you made a movie based on ideas like that and the leech guy, it would be weirder than Phantasm. While you could watch the show as an anthology and enjoy the progression (or lack thereof) of the characters, there's not much for them to do in two hours and you can't fit enough variety in either. Plus they're REALLY bad actors and they were better at comedy than drama. The non-love affair was boring. The intrigue of the show was to string you along every week for more "mythology," just like Lost. You could never fit enough in two hours to satisfy that years-long anticipation that never paid off.

And FFS, if they just make a Japanese ghost story ripoff with Mulder and Scully... oh, what's the point? They're trying to milk a dead cash cow. And that's just gross.

Doctor Who?

Well clearly this movie(and everything else with the X-Files name on it)isn't aimed at you,so don't go see it.

I have always love the X-Files.

Most of those ideas sound pretty cool to me.

I am really looking forward to this movie.

Everything you just said, is why I liked the show  :)

I liked that it wasn't the 'norm' for tv shows. I liked that the 'heroes' were useless...
Ok, so the 'alien conspiracy' got spread pretty thin...I'll give you that. But I really enjoyed the stand alone shows and I'm hoping the movie will be a stand alone.

Yeah i like it when the heroes are next to powerless.

In real life no one brings down a whole army all on their own.

I love the fact that Mulder and Scully can only save people, not bring down the whole thing it gives the Xfiles a real sense of danger.

There are few thing s i like more then stories where the heroes are on their own, they don't know who they can trust, and don't really know what is going on.

Also i am not sure what you mean when you say that in the past the Xfiles was a failure.  It ran for nine years and for most of that time it got good rating,in fact for a time it was one of the most popular shows on TV.  In that the only I am pretty sure the only Sci-Fi show that has done better then it is Star trek.

When did protagonists have  to have super powers to be the heroes?

That's ridiculous. I watched and enjoyed the X-Files until after the lame movie came out and the aliens turned into greys for no reason while underwater, and stopped watching around the time Doggett showed up. Releasing an X-Files movie in this decade isn't aimed at anyone. It's just following in the footsteps of Battlestar Galactica and other comebacks except because the original actors have never had careers, they can reprise their roles. Why is it that only George Lucas is ever accused of being greedy when he exploits his own creation? The X-Files was fine when it was good, but it failed twice. Why should they get a third chance? People don't get third chances.

The point was that the supernatural investigations genre has been done better and more interestingly. The TV show premise wasn't made for theaters. They already proved that. Any movie where normal FBI agents investigate weird occurances ends up in the discount video bin. It's the kind of thing the Sci-Fi Channel shows every Saturday. There's just no market for it unless there's some twist for the characters. Like for instance, if they're lesbians. That I would go see. Twice.

The thing is, would you go see this instead of Hellboy 2? No. You might go see it instead of a regular crappy horror movie, since this one will have Mulder and Scully in it, and that would seem to be the gimmick. But does that really add anything, or is it just a trick? Half the fun of horror is not knowing who will die. Well, we know Mulder and Scully won't die, or if they do it'll just piss people off. Why waste your money?
