What did we learn about messing with nature?

If you can channel the spirit of Shatner , you too can survive a dinosaur attack and maybe just bust a leg.
Now you see that evil will always triumph ... because good is dumb.

I learned that people will call a movie bad just on the basis it is a rifftrax. The acting is fantastic in this movie...
I learned that this crops up at least once on every board.
Not on the Star Wars Holiday Special. :^)

I learned that when I open up my Dinosaur based theme park, I will not stock it with dangerous man eaters that will get loose during the first power outage.

I also learned that the fate of a multi-billion dollar industry rides on the opinions of two minor bone dusters and one smug mathametician.

RVR II

I learned that over weight hackers are better at hacking than driving  :rimshot:

I learned that "spare no expense" doesn't apply to programmers.  Or storm shelters, so every time a storm comes in everyone except a few guys has to leave the island....

Oh, and that evolution continues after a species is extinct... When Dr. Grant says "you can't suppress 65 million years of evolution", if he was referring to the evolution of the T-rex it should have been hundreds of millions of years (all the dinos that came before it).  Probably a focus group thing, don't put different big numbers in the movie or people will get confused, just make everything 65 million years...

I learned that meat-eaters eat meat.  So plan on them doing whatever it takes to get said meat.

Oh, and plan for failure.

Tyrant

I learned that bathrooms are somehow readily available on an automatic track tour even though you're not supposed to exit the vehicles.

I  learned that, despite how cool it was, it's probably not a good idea to resurrect the T-Rex from extinction. There's a reason it became extinct and we should just leave it at that.

I also learned that if we ever do bring dinosaurs back, they will somehow be able to survive in our modern ecosystem as opposed to the ecosystem that existed millions of years ago (ie: oxygen concentration, air pressure, humidity, modern plantlife, etc).

I learned that splicing DNA from frogs is the key to making modern dinosaurs, despite the fact that dinosaurs are more related to birds then they are to reptiles or amphibians.

I learned that I should have skipped more classes in college.  Chaos theory is really just about some water and butterflies. It's also a big turn on!  I betcha string theory can be explained with some duct tape and a sports jacket. I'll probably be forced to marry the guy who explains that to me.

Mathematicians really just need to be sarcastic and condescending and don't need any of that pesky "math" stuff at all.

We should probably rethink installing an incredibly advanced power grid at the zoo, especially one located a few miles from administration.  It may sound like a good idea, but perhaps one or two switches located on a wall fairly close-by would be a better than about 30 switches and a primer located practically off site.
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Gamera

I learned that every child in a Spielberg movie is a horrible screaming brat who deserves a good beating.

Oh, and never fool with Mother Nature.

I also learned that ALL Austrailian men wear tiny upsetting shorts with no sense of shame what-so-ever.

Be careful, that particular explanation of string theory is illegal in several states.

It's diiiiirty.

I learned that 'Filthy Muppet Innuendo' is, indeed, a great band name.

This one was explained in the book, but the science behind it is now a bit outdated.  There are large parts of the DNA chain that are common to all species and seem to do nothing (junk DNA), so they used frog DNA to fill in those parts.  I think back then only frog and maybe fruit fly DNA had been completely sequenced.   Now they are finding these parts might be more important than previously thought.

I think the movie was better than the book (book got very boring and preachy in the middle), for JPII reverse it, the book was way better than the movie...
