Wow, I'm surprised Juno got so many noms. It's one of my favorite films of 2007, but I never considered it compition at any point. Glad it made it!

I haven't seen TWBB yet, so I'm going with NCFOM.

I'm betting on/hoping that Daniel Day Lewis gets the best actor award, only because he got robbed of an Oscar when he was nominated for Gangs of New York but didn't win.  (Adrian Brody won that year, which was a crock.)

I agree completely.

Oscars to Eddie Vedder and Dewey Cox: Eat our golden balls, we want a boring song and dance show, thank you very much.

I couldn't agree more.  The songs in Walk Hard were so goddamn great.  That's an overlooked movie on all counts.

I know I'm supposed to be happy that the Coen Brothers finally get their Oscar for best film if they win but that's tempered by the Scorsese factor.  They win but it's for one of their lesser works.

Here's where I disagree.  I think they certainly deserved it for Fargo, but to me No Country was of equal caliber.  It's not like they'd be taking it for Intolerable Cruelty.

I rewatched Intolerable Cruelty again recently and while it's nowhere as good as their other stuff, it still has a great amount of charm to it.

Oh yeah, it's by no means bad, it's certainly enjoyable.  It's just definitely not in my top five Coen Bros flicks (hey, I think I've got my idea for the next post on that game in Board Games...)

See, as a film nerd, I'm itching to correct you and say "that was actually Cruel Intentions", but my facetious metre is currently ringing, so I won't.  :)

Tripe

Ok my picks in bold where I felt I could make one

1. Best Picture: "Atonement," "Juno," "Michael Clayton," "No Country for Old Men," "There Will Be Blood."

2. Actor: George Clooney, "Michael Clayton"; Daniel Day-Lewis, "There Will Be Blood"; Johnny Depp, "Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street"; Tommy Lee Jones, "In the Valley of Elah"; Viggo Mortensen, "Eastern Promises."

3. Actress: Cate Blanchett, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"; Julie Christie, "Away From Her"; Marion Cotillard, "La Vie en Rose"; Laura Linney, "The Savages"; Ellen Page, "Juno."

4. Supporting Actor: Casey Affleck, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"; Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men"; Hal Holbrook, "Into the Wild"; Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Charlie Wilson's War"; Tom Wilkinson, "Michael Clayton."  Is this really Holbrook's first Oscar nod?

5. Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett, "I'm Not There"; Ruby Dee, "American Gangster"; Saoirse Ronan, "Atonement"; Amy Ryan, "Gone Baby Gone"; Tilda Swinton, "Michael Clayton." Ok I can't decide on that one and how is Blanchett a supporting actress in I'm not there?

6. Director: Julian Schnabel, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"; Jason Reitman, "Juno"; Tony Gilroy, "Michael Clayton"; Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, "No Country for Old Men"; Paul Thomas Anderson, "There Will Be Blood."

7. Foreign Film: "Beaufort," Israel; "The Counterfeiters," Austria; "Katyn," Poland; "Mongol," Kazakhstan; "12," Russia.

8. Adapted Screenplay: Christopher Hampton, "Atonement"; Sarah Polley, "Away from Her"; Ronald Harwood, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"; Joel Coen & Ethan Coen, "No Country for Old Men"; Paul Thomas Anderson, "There Will Be Blood."

9. Original Screenplay: Diablo Cody, "Juno"; Nancy Oliver, "Lars and the Real Girl"; Tony Gilroy, "Michael Clayton"; Brad Bird, Jan Pinkava and Jim Capobianco, "Ratatouille"; Tamara Jenkins, "The Savages."

10. Animated Feature Film: "Persepolis"; "Ratatouille"; "Surf's Up." tentative, I love the books and I'm going to see it on the 2nd but what I've so far seen is great.

11. Art Direction: "American Gangster," "Atonement," "The Golden Compass," "Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street," "There Will Be Blood."

12. Cinematography: "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," "Atonement," "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," "No Country for Old Men," "There Will Be Blood."

15. Original Score: "Atonement," Dario Marianelli; "The Kite Runner," Alberto Iglesias; "Michael Clayton," James Newton Howard; "Ratatouille," Michael Giacchino; "3:10 to Yuma," Marco Beltrami.

16. Original Song: "Falling Slowly" from "Once," Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova; "Happy Working Song" from "Enchanted," Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz; "Raise It Up" from "August Rush," Nominees to be determined; "So Close" from "Enchanted," Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz; "That's How You Know" from "Enchanted," Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

17. Costume: "Across the Universe," "Atonement," "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," "La Vie en Rose," "Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

21. Makeup: "La Vie en Rose," "Norbit," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." if you don't agree look up what Marion Cotillard really loks like and how well they made her look like Piaf

24. Visual Effects: "The Golden Compass," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "Transformers." Michael Bay may cry otherwise

yeah, I know, but I like misidentifying movies, that's why I will refer to Dune as Doom. ;D

Edit: hey, I just found out what facetious means. :o
