We should give him a chance before we damn him... but then again, wheres the fun in that?

He better not have organic web-shooters, or I'll fucking riot!

Yeah. Best to get the ill sense of forboding BEFORE the movie's filmed or shown in theatres. That way you guarantee a bitter taste in your mouth when you watch. :^)

Honestly I think he's definitely going to bring something fresh to the role, along with giving us more of the maniacal Joker that had been lacking in the Nicholson version. Notice how he mentioned (I think he did in this interview anyways.. I've read a few) that he was given THE KILLING JOKE (Alan Moore et al) to brush up on his Joker history.

Time will tell, but I am hopeful and cautiously optimistic.

Sharktopus

As much as he comes off as a prick in that interview (Which I'd already read, cause I'm a huge geek.), it doesn't really make me worry any moreso about his performance. I don't see any need for an actor to be a fanboy for the role. (In fact, I seem to recall Julian McMahon talking about how much he loved Dr. Doom growing up, and look how that turned out...) In fact, I think the less he knows about the Joker, the better. Let him interpret the character his own way, and trust that Chris Nolan and David Goyer will play fanboy cowboy cop if Ledger strays too far.

I didn't think he sounded that bad in that interview.  And any condescension that he might give off is probably a product of people bad-mouthing him because he doesn't like comic books.  But who cares?  Like Sharktopus said, it has nothing to do with whether or not he'll be good in the movie.  That's the writers and directors job.  Did people care if Gary Oldman was a fan of the comics?  Liam Neeson?  Michael Caine?

I think he's a great choice for the role, and I'm looking forward to his performance, regardless of how he carries himself off-screen.

Heath's a dick anyway.

I've got enough trust in Chris Nolan to believe he'll get a good performance out of him.  Although a lot of people seem to think Jack Nicholson's portrayal was good so perhaps what I want in a Joker is different.

Hmmmm, I agree with him.   Why be stuck with what has been written (penned) in comic books?    I know that a lot of comic book fans are probably horrified by his interview, but I think he is a good actor and the director will force a good performance out of him.

As a HUGE Batman fangirl, I have to say I'm extremely nervous about this choice. It takes a special type of crazy to pull off the Joker effectively and I don't know if Heath's got it in him. I don't think he's had a "crazy" role to reference, has he? I wouldn't know. I'm not a fan of him.

The Joker is a freaking icon. I think it takes either an especially gifted actor or an icon in of themselves to play him well. Let's hope Heath is an especially gifted actor.

Well the Batman director dude has said that the whole reason he picked Heath is because we wouldn't have any idea what to expect from him. I figure if he bit big wind, he wouldn't have got the role.

At first I felt like Ledger was the absolute worst person to cast as the Joker. But all gay cowboy jokes aside, he is a worthy actor, and was able to do the subtly crazy thing very well in Lords of Dogtown (my home town!)

Anyway - if he ruins the Joker, which is my favorite comic book villain EVER - EVER - then we should start a new Heath Ledger collection of RiffTrax ;)

I like that. If Hollywood actors step out of line, riff 'em. :^)
