I didn't think he sounded that bad in that interview.  And any condescension that he might give off is probably a product of people bad-mouthing him because he doesn't like comic books.  But who cares?  Like Sharktopus said, it has nothing to do with whether or not he'll be good in the movie.  That's the writers and directors job.  Did people care if Gary Oldman was a fan of the comics?  Liam Neeson?  Michael Caine?

I think he's a great choice for the role, and I'm looking forward to his performance, regardless of how he carries himself off-screen.

Oh, it's obvious that Michael Caine is a huge comics fanboy. He's the type, you can tell. He's probably got twin shelties named Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.

Be nice. Affleck was the LEAST of that movie's problems.

I dunno, i didnt like a lot of his answers in the interview, but hey at least the director did all right with the last movie.

Like Smilin Jack said I was totally against Michael Cain being cast as Batman.  "Mr. Mom?" I thought... I think this was before a lot of us, myself included, realized that a comedic actor could do a decent dramatic role.  He did and then some, and if you looked closely, his sense of humor peeked out from under the cowl from time to time.

That being said, I'll wait and see...

And here all the time I thought Christian Bale played Batman, I should really catch this movie some time!

None of his answers seemed condescending to me.

well you got to understand we are all fanboys/fangirls here.  saying that he doesnt want to know about the charectars is like acid in our collective mouths.

You misunderstood me.  I was talking about Michael Caine, who was in Batman Begins, not Michael Keaton, who you're referring to.  And I was being totally sarcastic.  My point is that an actor's interest in the source material has NOTHING to do with how good the actor will be, or how good the movie will be.

Folks, he's just an actor.  Most actors are not deep people.  Heck, a lot of them aren't even good people, in my experience.

sarcasm_made_Easy

question is how many of them are actually people :)

Phantom of Krankor

I really really really don't like Heath being the Joker. I really don't see it. I grew up watching the Batman animated series and Mark Hamil's voice over of the joker is just perfect. He in my mind will always be the best version of the Joker. I think maybe Daniel Day Lewis would've made a good Joker. Now I'm staying optomistic, and even though I don't like Heath Ledger I hope he does a good job. Really hope so. Because if he blows the role I will be one angry customer.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Wow... I dunno how anything in that interview could be interpreted as condescension towards the genre. He was never a comic book fan, didn't despise them but never sought them out. He said he would feel silly in a superhero costume. I mean, that was it. They were pretty straightforward, almost banal, answers to simple questions. He paid his respects to Jack's performance and explained how this one differs from what Burton/Nicholson did with the character. The only palpable condescension was from all the comments posted below the interview.
