Awesome sequels!

As a postiive contrast to the "bad sequels" thread let's talk about good sequels, or even great ones.

One of the very first (If not the very first, can someone tell if it was the first actual sequel?) was "Bride of frankenstein. I mean, it was in most ways better than the original, and the original was a hard act to top.

Terminator 2 was an improvement on terminator.

2010 was not as awesome as 2001, but it didn't embarrass the original, which was as much as we could hope for.

Aliens was a good movie, and totally different that Alien.

Superman 2 was a good sequel, and the last good supes movie until superman returns.

Hey, any movie that pisses off Bill O'Reilley and Ann Coulter is a good movie.

And I thought that it managed to uphold the spirit of the first two while modernizing things pretty well.

Poor Marsden, every time he does a comic book movie a cooler character tries to steal his girl.

That said, Superman Returns rocks simply because Spacey > Hackman.

Best sequel ever? Back to the Future Part II.

Of course, I may be biased, given that I rank the BTTF trilogy up there with Casablanca as my all time favorite movies.

I may be opening myself up to lots of grapeshot for this but he's also the cooler character in X-Men. Wolverine is a bleeding bore.

Batman Returns was equally as good as Batman. Batman Begins is also good, but wouldn't be a sequel.

First sequel I've ever heard of was Der Golem und die Tänzerin ("The Golem and the Dancing Girl").  A German Silent made as a sequel to Der Golem.
