Riffageddon has begun leaving a trail of riffed & slaughtered bad movies in it's wake. All bad movies repent because the hour is at hand. That's right,  I'm looking at you, House of the Dead.

That's a lie. No one looks at House of the Dead.

(Compound quietly hides his copies of House of the Dead and House of the Dead 2  behind his copy of Hot Shots Part Deux.)

Yep. No one in their right mind would look at that.

I'm hoping Mike dropkicks Joel, rips his leg off and then kicks Joel's ass him with Joel's own foot like on a celebrity deathmatch ;)

I'm really kidding.  That'd be a sight though.

I was thinking this could be a great almost "wrestling feud" style thing.  There were two wrestling companies that had a feud between them a couple years ago (Ring of Honor and Combat Zone Wrestling), so while behind the scenes the two companies were cooperating, they had the wrestlers at eachother's throats and the respective fans had to take sides.  The end result seemed to be increased business for both companies and nearly rabid fanbases screaming for more.

You could modify that into something interesting here, have a rivalry between Joel and Mike escalate so they take shots at eachother in the riffs.  Suddenly you could have Bill do a "run-in" and mess with the scaffolding on CT, or some odd sound effect would end up in a Rifftrax and it can be blamed on Trace getting revenge.  It'd all be in good fun behind the scenes, appearing like a battle to the fans, though it'd be tongue in cheek.

Okay, so it might not really work, but it was a fun thought that helped me ward off boredom at work.

Leading on from that would each team at some point riff the same movie? Perhaps eventually a CT and Film Crew special edition containing both riffs.

Perhaps, or one episode that featured the CT team riffing part of it, then the Film Crew riffing the next with a fictional "score" to see who's doing better.  Of course it would be a tie, and the end of the movie would be the tiebreaker, with everyone riffing at once.   ;D  It would be gloriously insane.

Heh, with all the rap battles always happening on YouTube, an intense Riff Battle would be a lot of fun.

Well, to add my .02...I'll wait for people here to tell me how these turn out. I've never really gotten Joel's weirdo sense of humor, and I always just wanted to throttle Josh.  I find the KTMA episodes absolutely unwatchable.  Dr. F was funny, but...I dunno.  I've always preferred the guys we have here at Rifftrax now to the earlier incarnations, so I'm not likely to shell out money for this side project.

I think there are a lot of people who feel this way. I'm not one of them, but I've had this discussion before, whenever people talk about their personal preferences. I always thought it was who you got to know first. I first started watching MST3K when it was Joel Trace and Kevin, and I have a real soft spot for that. I also enjoyed the season one and KTMA episodes, just because they were "different" in a raw, unpolished kind of way. I liked Josh's underplayed Servo. So for me, this is a great addition to the "riff family" so to speak.

From KTMA Phase IV (after the onscreen graphic about midway through the film that stated Phase 2)

Servo: Joel, what's the name of this movie?
Joel: Phase 4
Servo: (pause) We're halfway there...

Maybe the Film Crew will sorta fizzle out and the gang will join the writing team over at CT as the main pseudo-MST3K outlet and then have them cross-over to Rifftrax as the main feature movie outlet....  I still see the biggest advantage MST3K had (and now maybe CT) was a full team of writers

Oh, I think Film Crew has fizzled alright.
Seriously, considering the amount of work Mike is putting into RiffTrax these days, and from some of the comments made on this forum from TorgosPizza, I'd say that Film Crew is "dead in the water"  ;)

Also, why add more competition to yourself?

My main concern is if Mike will ever be able to get Frank, Trace, Joel or even Mary Jo to guest riff (again)?

mrbasehart

Wow.  I'm gone for a few days and look what happens!  :)

I'm looking forward to all the new projects that have been announced, though I am a little wary of the revival of MST3k, especially as none of the core guys are involved.  It seems like it will mean merchandise though, and Mallon's gonna rake in the cash through that alone.

Cinema Titanic sounds *very* promising - I'm not a huge fan of Joel, but I love Trace and Frank, and the downloadable aspect of the series will help with    keeping all the costs down - though if they did release them on DVD as well, I'd certainly get them.  As for competition, I think it's a good thing, but I wouldn't mind seeing a little crossover between the two, you all have mentioned some great ideas that would benefit both franchises.

BEERxTaco

It seems that Film Crew was a great idea just slightly ahead of its time... hey that would make a dynamite advertising slogan!

Looks like Joel, Trace, and Frank are starting their own Rifftrax-type site....should be interesting.

Yeah, somewhat unfortunately.....  although I liked the first one more than any Rifftrax (still haven't seen the last 2), the idea was sorta doomed to start given that each DVD was full price......

And I'm betting Mike will be able to, I'm really hoping for my idea that you quoted.....

And just to be an asshole sorta....  Some people are sorta ragging on Joel and etc and patting Mike on the back for testing the waters and saying the new incarnations are jumping on the bandwagon....  But, if you look back, 'Star Wait' featuring the 3 of them was released in 2005 and if you go back to Trace's interview with View Askew back in May of this year he still hadn't heard of Rifftrax and was already planning to move back to Minnesota as well as doing something new with Joel and Josh.............   So it seems to me to be more along the lines of just 'great minds think alike' than simply jumping on the bandwagon....

But the cartoon idea is still bullshit

Maybe we should ask the moderators, has Mike commented about either of these projects yet, or will he in the near future?
