it's a deal with the Weinsteins and some others....  this is the first worth while exclusive though

jewishcarpenter

That's funny I noticed when my rental that was NOT from Blockbuster began it said "This DVD is strictly intended for sale only." (or something along those lines), than laughed at Hastings for breaking the law.

EDITED TO ADD: I just noticed I've been on this forum for a year now.

MrTorso

What law?  There is no law preventing anyone from buying something and then renting it. In fact there is a pending lawsuit against TWC and Blockbuster because of those "For Sale Only" title cards that give the appearance that a company is breaking some kind of law.

I'm just pissed by the whole "you can only rent this movie at blockbuster, so if you are not signed up with them, then go frack yourself".

Never going to buy this now.   Good business move there sparky.

Are stores really following the exclusive? They probably can't get it from their regular distributors but nothing is stopping them from going to a Costco and buying them that way. Don't get me wrong it does suck but they can get them to rent. Netflix has it.

I've got this coupon code that expires in 2 days....  If anyone wants to go through the trouble of photoshopping a fake coupon with the code real quick (it's the same on all of these things I have) I can give it to them, and chances are if it doesn't scan (or you make it unscannable) they'll type in the code or credit you.  Just pm me and I'll send it to you.  But if you want it, I suggest doing it and using it for Deathproof

On Monday when I went to my Netlfix queue there was a little pop up message saying that they were not allowed to buy any more and did not want to rent a movie that would stay on long wait, so there were going to discontinue it from Netflix.   Then two days later, they put it back on.

I wonder if Netflix flexed their muscle on Weinstein?    I hope they squeezed them good.

So, since Netflix is renting it, isn't it illegal for Blockbuster to day "we are the ONLY place to rent it"?????

I was told the rationale that Blockbuster is the only store that's allowed to rent it

and speaking of corporate bullshit and Grindhouse.... I now have Planet Terror in my possession since I ran out of rentals last week when it came in...  Will probably watch tonight but so far judging from the cover and back it doesn't seem to be extended nor does it have any trailers on it....... what it does have is an audience reaction track which sounds at least somewhat interesting

edit -

MrTorso

It doesn't have the trailers but it does have the "missing reels".

I thought there was only one missing reel in Planet Terror, the one during the sex scene?  Cause that one's definitely still there, and the film opens up with all the original theater stuff including Machete and rating and etc

Wait... am I to understand you think mad magazine is sick and you like planet terror? Can you say hypocrisy?

Petey Wheatstraw

 ???

First of all, I said that I found the idea behind the "Cause of Death Betting Odds" feature to be "sick." I.E., playing the idea of gambling on how a celebrity would die for humor. NOT Mad magazine, which used to be quite funny. (It's decline in quality was caused by poor writing, not this specific feature.) Why does my love of 1970s exploitation films, and Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's recent tribute to the genre have anything to do with not liking the idea of coming up with ways for a celebrity to die as a source of humor in a joke about Vegas betting odds? Not to mention the fact that you screwed up my quote, attributing Pyro's comment to me. Are you the same guy that came on here a few months ago bashing Ren & Stimpy and calling the fans of that series that regularly post here morons for liking it?

It has machete? Awesome. I thought for sure they would put the "missing reel" back in. If they didn't I am glad because I really liked the way that sequence played out in the theater. I still think the home marketing for these flicks sucks....

I still have the music from this movie playing in my head and I watched this movie a few weeks ago. I need to get a copy of this soundtrack.
