I managed to score the Planet Terror DVD last night. I think it's not supposed to go on sale until this coming Tuesday, but this one place I go to will usually put stuff up for sale early.

Anyways, I wanted to make some points about the DVD, and give you an idea about what to expect.

1.) This is the international extended cut of the film. In Europe, both the films in Grindhouse were released separately, and with extra material.
2.) Since this is a Robert Rodriguez DVD, there is an all new 10 minute film school segment, showing how they pulled off the special effects (including the machine-gun leg).
3.) Unlike the Death Proof DVD (which I also enjoyed), Planet Terror does include one of the fake trailers that was shown in the US theatrical release, and thankfully it's my favorite one...MACHETE! And finally...
4.) Unfortunately, one of the coolest features that Robert includes in his DVD's, the 10 minute cooking school, is not on this DVD. However, he mentions on the bonus disc that there WILL be a DVD set released later of the full US theatrical double feature version of Grindhouse, which will include all the fake trailers (Don't, Thanksgiving, etc.), and the 10 minute cooking school segment for J.T.'s BBQ recipe.

Stayed up most of last night watching the film and the extras, and I really enjoyed it.

watched planet terror again tonight  back to back with 1408.........there's a butt load of nightmare fuel  :D I forgot how much I like PT, such a damn good movie. I'm glad I can rent it, so I can wait for the two disk release. I'm sure I've got a coupon laying around somewhere as pyro offered. I never use them, I've got like 5 movies out at any given time for $20 a month. I hate blockbuster but.......well yeah, it's awesome.

I really didnt notice it being extended though, that really confused me, 1:45 runtime wasnt that the theatrical of PT? still was a missing reel.
The Ood: The Beast and his armies will rise from the pit to make war against God.
Rose: I'm sorry?
The Ood: Apologies. I said: I hope you enjoy your meal.

According to Wikipedia, the "Grindhouse" version of PT was 80 minutes long, and the extended version is 105 minutes.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

huh, interesting, I'm going to have to think about this, me and my fiance didnt notice a difference. I wish they had both on the DVD, so you could actually tell.

btw, the black sheep trailer was interesting. another note, planet terror and 1408 had the exact same(real) trailers.

I got really bold and purchased both Planet Terror and Death Proof today... is that trailer Hobo with a shotgun on either DVD? I saw that on youtube a while back and I thought it was so funny... can't say the same for Thanksgiving though... Eli Roth is a sick bastard.

Chaos

I never saw this in the theater. I just watched Death Proof this evening... please tell me that Planet Terror is better? Because Death Proof was pretty damn boring and pointless. An hour and forty-eight minutes of watching stupid, annoying women for 5 minutes of payoff? Thank god I borrowed it from a friend and didn't actually spend any money on it.

Seriously, is Planet Terror any better, or am I just wasting my time? I used to like Rodriguez, he usually does at least mildly entertaining brain-switch-off stuff, but Tarantino is just full of himself. I'm going to watch Planet Terror tomorrow night... hopefully that won't be a wasted evening too. :P

Planet Terror is just like Dusk Till Dawn in that regard.  Nothing but mindless action, and cheesy lines.( which is a good thing), and tons of faux John Carpenter music to boot.  The Point: shut your brain off, break open a beer, and kick back.

For a diseenting opinion:

Chaos: I actually liked Death Proof better than Planet Terror, and I wasn't too fond of Death Proof. It's disappointing as I like Rodriguez's stuff and I'm a big zombie film fan.  But there was just something missing for me in the film.

Just take that with a grain of salt. Others on this site have said that it was one of their favorite films. (shrug)  But I was very disappointed in it.  It was nowhere near the level of From Dusk til Dawn.

Can someone please tell me why both these movies were hyped out the ass please? I watched all of death proof and thought it was very boring until about 45 minutes in... then it got boring again!! Until the last 20 minutes that is. I mean yeah, Death Proof had a GREAT kick-ass ending(pun intended), but it just pisses me off that it had to waste so much time with boringness.

Seriously though! The two groups of girls in Death Proof talk about Drugs, Alcohol, sex, then talk about drugs, alcohol and sex again. I see how that might not be considered boring to some people... but it was dragged out for a good twenty minutes for each group of girls.
