Out of interest, has anyone else with the PAL version of The Matrix had any major synch trouble?

Yes, I've also had problems with the synching of the PAL version. I used Manual synching however, and as a result it seems to be a reversal of your situation.

For the majority of the film, the synching of the Film and the rifftrax is pretty much ok, only being off by a second or two either way.

However, once it reaches the point where Morpheus fights Agent Smith, it suddenly all goes to hell with the next Disembaudio synch line "I choose the Matrix" coming about 6 seconds after it has been said in the movie.

That's interesting, I've just watched the whole thing through with the Rifftrax playing independently on a laptop. I got basically the exact same problem you describe here. It works okay for most of the film, then everything suddenly goes to Hell. The "I choose the Matrix" line was way late in the Rifftrax.

If there's a bit of a glitch in the PAL Rifftrax, I guess that might be what confused Sharecrow the first time. I think I'll experiment a bit more and then maybe make a report to the Tech Support thread if I can't work it out.

I have to say, though, while it's in synch, this is a very funny commentary.

Cheers,

Cy.

If there is a part in the pal version where it jumps ahead six seconds, then just cut 6 seconds of silence out right before that scene. That should work hopefully.

B) The machines have much better power sources on this planet than human bodies.  Cows, whales, electric eels, any of these provide ten or twelve times the amount of bio-electric power and you don't have to provide a little virtual playland for them to convince them to cooperate.  They could still enslave the humans as they did in the movie, making a Matrix for them, but just to keep them out of the way while they rebuilt and dominated an undestroyed Earth.  You know what I'm saying.  The movie stays in tact, but the plot line is tighter.

Yeah, it may has well have been cows. (Mootrix?)
Instead of electrical power I think the processing power of the our brains would've been a better uniquely human trait for the machines to exploit. Morpheus would hold up a computer chip instead of a battery.

BEST. RIFFTRAX. EVER!

Sidesplittingly funny. This is Rifftraxing at its best. From the comments made during the fight scenes, to the discussions about what the Matrix is, to the Donkey Kong joke.. It was all so awesome. I was laughing at nigh every Riff. This is good stuff! Hope it holds through Phantom Menace...

In terms of gauging the relative stupidity or silliness of THE MATRIX (or the sequels or V FOR VENDETTA), I highly recommend that anyone who is interested in the mystery of the Wachowskis should pick up the budget priced Republic dvd of BOUND, their first film.

The BOUND dvd features that rarest of rarities:  a Wachowksi Brothers commentary (featuring Susie Bright, Joey Pantaliano, Gina Gershon, Jen Tilley and a member of the tech crew whose name and function eludes me).

It's sobering to hear just how amused The Wachowskis are by the campiness of their material.   Much like The Cohen Brothers, Larry and Andy Wachowski tend to giggle like Beavis and Butthead at their own shlockiness.  So, is the stilted dialogue the result of an inability to write for convincing characters or are the auteurs merely amusing themselves?  My theory is that both explanations factor in.  The Wachowskis prefer to write silly, stylized b-movie dialogue, but unlike a certain George Lucas, they are hip enough to know that their movies are funny.

I am reminded of a comment from Lambert Wilson that, although he speaks perfectly fine English, The Wachowskis asked him to crank his French up to a ridiculous level.  I'm guessing that they did this for comedic effect.

Also, if you're find yourself entirely too curious about The Wachowskis, please feel free to check out this Rolling Stone article on the mysteriously androgynous Larry.  It's a fun article although I would say that most of the sources seem to be motivated by negative biases.

My NTSC version synched up really well everytime I've watched it so far, (4 now I think), for me, it's been the best at having the least amount of drift.  That was a really clunky sentence, but I have a cold...

Easiest to sych from the beginning and just rock solid throughout.  Of course, I've only ever watched this one on the laptop, with the track playing in the background with WinMedia, so, maybe I'll find it different when I screen it for friends and have the track playing independantly.

Oh, and PAKMAN, holy god, when Mike did the "I'm a little tea cup!!" in a real "tough" tone?  Oh man, I just lost it completely.  Holy Moses on a pogo stick, I nearly wet 'em!

My favorite though, and the one my wife and I were both falling down over was the end sequence with the phone gag?  Where Neo's voice is talking on the phone and Kevin is doing the old lady voice?  Oh, DUDE!

--"...is this the Democrats??"

"I'm going to show you something you don't want the world to see..."

--"You just better NOT, young man!"

Priceless.  Absolutely amazingly fall down funny!

edit : Just re-watched, it was Kevin that did the "teapot" riff, sorry, Mr. Murphy...

Me and my wife were cracking up at that same scene. Priceless. :^)

Great stuff!

I followed the guide and was able to turn out a perfectly good DVD. Thanks for that!

One thing I was able to determine was that there does appear to be an error in the PAL version of the Rifftrax (at least, in the one that I received). There's a point where a 6-7 second drift suddenly occurs. Compensating for that basically fixed everything else, with a very minor tweak to each of the DA lines.

Thanks again for the guide. It made things a whole lot easier than I was expecting.

10 out of 10!! Best one EVER!!!

I laughed until my chest hurt. Oh man, Pak and I were on the floor towards the end dying. Laughed til I cried.

Is it just me, or were most of the REALLY good lines from Kevin? Just a thought to throw out there.

No, I'm with you, I think Kevin had most of the best lines in this one.  Especially since I went up and corrected the "teapot" reference that I originally atrributed to Mike.  The more I watch it the more I laugh... jeeze this one is good...

I definately heard some bobo near the end on the phone.

This one a little better than Cocktail for me. There were some great lines but I wasn't laughing that much, not sure why. I certainly was entertained though. This definately had a lot of nerd references to appease the Slash.dot crowd.

What the hell?

I'd just like to chime in and express my great appreciation of Office Space references, Neo/Kevin Murphy phone conversations, and radicalist Disembaudio.
Snowhead the Blue Reindeer gave me all the presents in the world.

I just finished watching it for the 5th of 6th time now, jeeezu, even with my chest congestion (is that spelled right?), I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to have a stroke!  I amend my original grade of B+ to A+ (is that right?  I'm on so much medication right now....)

Anyways, it's one of my very favorite tracks... all's I'm sayin'
