90% of horror movies involve the smart, clean living virgin surviving while anyone who has sex or does dugs is killed.  Slashers are basically morality tales at their core.

I agree, this was hilarious and I too, forgot how little of anything happened in this movie.

I cannot see Donald Pleasence and not think of "Puma Man".

I'm having some friends over this weekend for a horror movie marathon and the Rifftrax version of Halloween will be my contribution.

Hilarious.

Quote from: MontyServo on October 23, 2006, 08:04:14 AMHalloween has always been one of my favorite films of the genre, and I expected a great Rifftrax to come out of it.  I was not disappointed.  I had forgotton how slowly paced and methodical this movie was in dishing out the gore.

That's pretty much my view of it. A seminal film? Yes. A sign of things to come, both in terms of the flood of imitators that would follow and in terms of the growing skill of Carpenter as a director? Yes. But a "good" movie? Erm..no. The continuity problems, the walking-scene padding, the endless teen chatter with no relevance, the wearisome scenes of people just sitting there watching TV, the music cues that go nowhere... It's perfectly fine to respect the movie's place in history, but that doesn't mean it isn't deserving of biting comments. And the comments were great. Another winner.

While not one of my favorite Rifftrax, there were some good riffs here and there. I really liked that when Kevin was doing the phone riffs they made it sound like he was on the telephone.

Yes I noticed this too. Its sounds better that they used a "phone" effect as apposed to cupping your hands over your mouth, like they used to do in the MST days.

I also thought that the Donald Pleasence riffs were just 'grand'. To me, if it wasn't for these riffs, then this would be the worst RiffTrax to date. But lucky for us there were plenty of Donald 'no so' Pleasence riffs to make this rifftrax worthwhile.

ROFL-- LOL-- etc. that's one of my favorite MST moments as well, in "Merlin's Mystical Shop of Wonders" with the claravoiant on the park bench.  YOU STUPID BASTARD... oh my god, it makes me laugh every time... just thinking about it... nicely remembered, sir/madam, (Heysie could go either way, don't want to offend), Bravo or Brava!

For God's sake, David!!  ;)  Yes, I'm afraid I end up comparing rifftraxes to movies like Merlin, but that is a mighty high bar.

Sorry I aggravate some people by saying Halloween is bad movie. It just seems like it is!  I'm sure many people think that about movies I like though.

Someone should answer Joe Don's question about the poetry quoting; I didn't quite get that reference.

Well, gotta go take my monkey-less trash to the curb. Not thinkin' about demons! Tum tee tum.

Thanks -- it was one of those moments where you want to hit the rewind button and listen to it again ... and then you realize, "ahhh, then I'll have to resynch the movie" and go back to sucking down yer beer.

Time to start re-authoring your own DVD's so you can stop, pause, rewind and you'll still stay in sync  ;)

On a different note...did anyone notice (especially in that phone booth scene), that whenever Kevin and/or Mike was trying to sound like Donald Pleasence, they sort of sounded like Torgo?

It made me giggle.

This one was great, I loved how they'd fill up some of the dead time with their skits

Did anyone notice if Mike and Kev did a Telefon reference when Donald was in the phone booth, near the beginning, by the abandoned red pickup truck?  Kevin recited a bit of poetry there, but it didn't seem to be from the "miles to go before I sleep" Robert Frost refrain that Donald dishes out over many a payphone in Telefon.

What Kevin quotes in that scene -- "As the June light turns to moonlight, [he'll] be on [his] way" -- is actually from a fairly obscure Beatles tune called, coincidentally enough, I'll Be On My Way.  Though what the hell that has to do with Donald Pleasance, I have no clue.

"Drivin' Donald Pleasance around... Shake it!  Yeah, shake it!"

Thanks Steve-O.  A reference to the Charles Bronson movie Telefon would be pretty obscure by now, I guess, middling cold war relic that it is.  As always I enjoyed Donald's performance in that, though.

The one riff I was surprised I didn't hear?  Not a single Mike Myers reference.  They probably made a deal not to do something so obvious, but I was still surprised.  Of course, I never noticed that the name "Michael Myers" is not actually said much in the movie.  Maybe, what, twice?

Oh, yeah!  And wasn't that kid in the movie supposed to be dressed as Luke Skywalker?  Not a single Skywalker riff.  And I saw the perfect place for one!  When he and the little girl are watching TV and he crawls over the side of the couch to go to the window, I inserted the following riff:  "Luke Couchwalker."

Brilliance, I tell you!
Snowhead the Blue Reindeer gave me all the presents in the world.

I particularly enjoyed the Griswold Family Truckster riffs, and after watching this one, I happened to catch Halloween on AMC the other night, at the scene where Donald Pleasance is standing on the street as Michael drives past him in the station wagon, and I chuckled at the memory of the riffing from that moment.  Heh.

I actually love Halloween, sans riffing, but this was hilarious. Mike's voicing for Sheriff Brackett (the great Charles Cyphers) still has me laughing when I think about it. "At all times I like to give the impression of a potential rapist"... Not an exact quote. But that was classic. Kevin Murphy was great too. He seems to have perfected the muffled wearing-a-mask voice and the other-end-of-the-phone voice. I liked the crack about Lindsay Wallace being a stuffed child.

This was the hardest I've laughed in a while. The only other rifftrax I've gotten so far is Point Break. Not as funny as Halloween, but still funny. I think Kevin Murphy and/or Bill Corbett should be on board for each track, because I think the guys work better when they have someone to play off of.
