They are Pulp fiction.  Like what Lucas and others read as a kid, so yeah they aren't supposed to be realistic portrayals of history.
That's what pissed me off about the Temple of Doom haters.  It's a frickin' PULP story, not a history lesson.  Come on.  Temple of Doom is a great movie.  Saying that, Harrison Ford is a fucking geiser.  Why doesn't Lucas just CGI a young Indiana and go to town.

I would just like to point out again that I hated Temple of Doom before I knew anything about history or Hinduism. The film just sucked in many regards, a painful chapter to the Indiana Jones chronicles.

Yannow... when Transformers was announced, there were millions of assholes(and yes, make no mistake, they were and still are assholes) that said their childhood was being raped by the new Transformers movie, before it even came out. I mean jesus, if you want to hate it pre-emptively, then hate it, but don't be a douche and say it's going to suck when you honestly have no goddamn idea as to whether it will be bad or not. Look at it this way: At least it's not being directed by George Lucas.
