Chaos

Young Frankenstein, hands down.

Both movies are very funny, but YF has much more entertainment going on... Spaceballs is good for a quick laff, though.

Spaceballs is funny but you can see the jokes coming from a mile away.

And it didn't have that cast.  I mean, just think of all the funny women alone in Young Frankenstein....and then think Daphne Zugna (sp?)...   :(

spaceballs is amazingly funny.  but has less replay factor.  it requires you have a decent idea of the movie its parodying.  not so true with young frankenstein.

Movies....remember the bit based on Alien.

But if you do know those films....it's great.

with frankenstien if you do know what its refferring to its merely icing on a an already tasty cake.

with spaceballs if you know what its refferring to its like they are allowing to have a slice of their cake.

two very different scenarios.

A togher one: Spaceballs or Robin Hood- Men in Tights?

I voted Spaceballs over Young Frankenstein... I've always liked both movies, but like others have said, Spaceballs holds a special place just beause of the subject matter. I was a big fan of the orignal Star Wars trilogy... being nine years old when RotJ released.... and Spaceballs came around just long enough afterwards to where I could laugh at all the silly aspects that Brooks poked fun at. Young Frankenstein is every bit as good, and probably better, for a whole different set of reasons... but I revisit Spaceballs much more often and that's why it gets my vote.

Men In Tights had it's moments... I guess... but at best, it's the Ringo Starr of the four Brooks movies mentioned in this thread.

J-Proof

Young Frankenstein by far -- any movie that has the Brooks-Wilder collaboration wins in my book....

I agree with the first response to the initial thread -- Young Frankenstein v. Blazing Saddles would maeke a formidable debate.

I honestly don't think it would have been all that different...

maybe there'd be a bit more slapstick?

Well, great, now my head's blown up. I'll choose Young Frankenstien, because the concept is more compelling.

Based on The Producers, I think a Mel Brooks musical would have had much, much more terrifying (and hilarious) songs than the ones in the Mel Stuart Willy Wonka movie.  In Mel Stuart's movie, the songs ranged from mildly pleasant (the Bucket family songs, Wonka's songs) to mildly creepy (the oompa loompas' Old Testament-style moralizing songs which justify the childrens' fate).
