What have we learned?

Sharktopus

I learned that if he can be the most annoying person in a movie featuring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Randy Quaid, and Harvey Fierstein, Harry Connick Jr might just be the most irritating man on Earth.

I learned that an alien vessel that is several miles wide and has almost unfathomable mass causes no more than a little rumble when it falls to the earth.

I learned that although aliens have no vocal cords, they still squeal like pigs when you shoot them.

I learned that the Military at Area 51 is quite stupid and selfish, and that it takes a civilian to realize that the whole passel of folks on the ground level of the base are in danger of the gigantic alien vessel heading right for them.

I learned that there is at least one person in high-ranking government positions that is evil for no apparent reason.

I learned that elite American fighter pilots are allowed to make long speeches in the middle of their extremely dangerous and important missions.

I learned that Harry Connick Jr. is extremely annoying, and that his death was sooooooooooooo unexpected.

You never know when an old Jewish curmudgeon might accidentally suggest your next course of action.

What, Judd Hirsh played a JEWISH character?    I dont think the movie drove that point home to us enough.    I though he was a southern baptist.

Oy gevalt, he's meshugenah, this one is.

BTW, these people would love the movie released in the US as Godzilla 1985.   From imdb.com:  "....in the Japanese version, the Russian submarine officer tries to stop the nuclear weapon that was accidentally launched. This was changed for the US version so that the Russian officer actually launched the weapon."

You're forgetting that during the Reagan years EVERYTHING was the Russians fault.

Oh I think that attitude was around a bit longer than that.

I always loved how thouroghly we villified the Communists. Remember that scene near the end of the "Invasion USA" MST3K episode?
"He dead! You my woman now!"

Ok now that reminds me of this... "I was the only one left after the appocalypse, all the bowling alleys had been wrecked, so I spent most of my time looking for beer.......psssst ACT, ACT"

I learned that golden retrievers can just toss the laws of physics right out the window if the situation calls for it.

Yeah, you stamp out basic freedoms, open a few gulags, people start acting like it's a bad thing.  I never quite got that myself.

I learned that tunnel explosions only go straight, so if you hide in a side door, you'll be just fine.

DoctorZ

I learned that flying a modern fighter jet in combat is no harder than chugging absinthe and para-sailing.  Anyone can do it.

Aliens smell bad

Marrying a stripper disqualifies you as a NASA astronaut.

Wait...unless I missed it, wasn't there a giant ship where all the other ships came from?

What happened to that?

Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum flew into in, hung out, chatted, blew it up....

Wait, that was the main ship they flew into?

I don't know why I can't keep track of what's going on in this flick.
