What have we learned?

I learned the most obvious thing of all, that any moron can easily upload a computer virus to a mothership even if they don't have any goddamn idea how to do it or where to transmit the signal.

Aliens won't notice when a 40 year old model of spaceship comes in through the front door.

I learned that aliens MUST wait for several hours to attack even though they are already positioned to attack.

That somehow flashing a bunch of lights in an undeceranble pattern is supposed to a)prove we're intelligent and b)make peace with aliens.

That was a swipe at Spielberg and CE3K.  And just as funny as their "running joke" about Siskel & Ebert in Godzilla.....as in, "not at all"!!!

Oh Jesus... I already hate Devlin and Emmerich... imagine how I feel about those morons now.

I learned that the entire planet still brushes up on Morse Code on a consistent basis so they are always up to speed....... just in case.
I'd bet that most militaries do (the US certainly does).  There's something to be said for a code that requires that requires only on/off and duration for communication.

Now why they had telegraph keys for sending the Morse Code is something that I can't explain.

I will never be caught flat footed by an alien attach ever again.

In a global crisis most of the world will just on their duffs and wait for the Americans to do something cool.

Actually a point similar to this started a huge argument/debate in the IMDB forum.

It was something along the lines of "The Yanks save the world again like how they won WWII, Korea, Vietnam all by themselves"  and  "Hey, lay off, the reason why Americans are the heroes of the movie is the fact that it is made by Americans. In British movies the Brits are the heroes, etc....."

Quite a fun read actually.

The US won Vietnam?   :o :o :o :o

BTW, these people would love the movie released in the US as Godzilla 1985.   From imdb.com:  "....in the Japanese version, the Russian submarine officer tries to stop the nuclear weapon that was accidentally launched. This was changed for the US version so that the Russian officer actually launched the weapon."

If you're going to save the world, bring a cable company technician and a drunken crop duster with you.

I learned that finding out the aliens are hostile 30 seconds earlier is somehow helpful.

Well, after watching some of the deleted scenes, I've learned that this movie could've been a lot worse. Movie editors of America, I salute you.

I've also learned that in the event of an alien attack, I'm seeking shelter with PSLOwner. With your telegraph/Blackberry doohicky and my 733t haxxor skillz, those alien commie bastards will never know what hit 'em! 8)

We'll still need a wisecracking pilot who knows the manuvers of extraterrestrial vessels, though. :P
