Did anyone else see this yet?  I plunked down my $5 yesterday and braved it for myself.  I still haven't seen the first one and, while I have read plenty of Marvel comics over the years, I am not exactly a comic book fanboy.  So I wasn't sure how I would like this.

With the exception of the Silver Surfer parts, I found the movie to be pretty dull.  The special effects are all over the place.  Some are really good, but others look low rent.  When the Surfer is onscreen, it is pretty cool to watch.  Silver Surfer is such a compelling character that he rises above the rest of the dreck that is this film.  I hope they bring the character back for a solo movie.

Highly recommended for Surfer fans just to see a big screen Surfer finally.  Not recommended at all for everyone else.

Sideswipe

I saw it.  It was an ok movie.  I think I was expecting a little more though.  It took a little while for this movie to get going.  I like the liitle gags they throw in movies to lighten things up a bit.  But it seemed to me that there were a few to many gags in this movie.  I agree the Silver Surfer himself was pretty awesome.  I've heard that Fox wants to do a Silver Surfer spin off and that they have asked J. Michael Straczynski to write the screenplay.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

BathTub

Not so much 'have asked' as 'it is finished and handed in'.

I actually liked the film more than I thought I would but there are a few things i cringed at:
But yeah, overall I enjoyed it.
And yes, Norrin kicks ass. He was complex, powerful, and shamlessly genital free!

I enjoyed it too.  I felt that there wasn't quite enough of the team doing super-things together, but I had a good time with it.  I agree that the effects were a bit all over the place - you could see most of the budget was poured into the Silver Surfer, while the basic stuff was neglected a little.  Apart from those niggles though, I thought it was superior in every way to the first one.

They should bring in Annihulus and the Negative Zone for the third one.   ;D

Junkyard

I was thinking a skrull invasion, actually. Just make them look less like sad little men in pajamas.

With the effects- Too many of the effects were too dark. Were they good effects? How the hell should I know?

Shadow

I thought it was decent.  Definately better than the first.  I just think parts of the movie (such as the dance scene) came off as being too goofy.

Kind of disappointed with Galactus.  I was hoping for a big purple man to show up.

I will say they appear to have Human Torch and Thing down perfectly.  Now if only they could do something about Dr. Doom, so much wasted potential.

Pak-Man

It was like the first one. Lots of fun with little substance. (Which is OK by me. It's the FANTASTIC FOUR for cryin' out loud. It's never been shakespeare.) The motivations were fuzzy and Galactus was a bit anti-climactic, but I still enjoyed myself.

I have one extremely nerdy quibble, and all nerdy quibbles must be posted into forums:

Regarding spoiler:
I know you've probably told yourelf already, but Get Over It. He was "unstable." There was wiggle room.

Also, if you want stuff to make sense, how the hell does Johnny talk while on fire? Or breath, even? When on fire, most people die of asphixiation before they die of burns.

Sideswipe

I dont know.  The same way he doesn't burn up when his entire body is covered in flames.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Junkyard

Right, that all encompassing protection, but the flames are still over him, so they should still be stealing his oxygen.

But yeah, not important.

Shadow

I always assumed his flames surrounded his body but never actually touched him.

Saw it today and enjoyed it.  I was wondering how they would work in Doom and thought it was a good step to basically adapt the story from the comics where Dr. Doom stole the Surfer's powers in Norrin's second full appearance.  I'm also willing to accept the way they portrayed Galactus as a way to sell the concept to a non-comics reading viewer.  In the comics it always seemed problematic to have a giant the right size to interact with other characters but still seem to need the complete energies of an entire planet.  But the cosmic cloud thingie filled the bill with its "tendrils"  fitting into the "plug-ins" provided by the Surfer.
It was also okay that they only referred to him by the title Silver Surfer the one time.

I haven't seen it but will this week. My friend and I have a bet going. I think that the Silver Surfer's "secret" is that he's actually 95% nickel. bwahhahaha!
