Super Mario Bros Wonder is just as great as you are hearing. Beautiful, funny, surprising and just solidly designed. I'm in world 4 now and having a blast.
FINE

Pak-Man

Had to wait for my next paycheck this Friday, but I can't wait to dive in. Looks like so much fun and I love what they're doing with the little flavor animations.

I've been playing Advance Wars: Reboot Camp on Switch since it came out earlier this year. I LOVE The Advance wars series... but DAMMIT... I am aggravated AF that this DAMN game has LOAD times... SERIOUSLY???? I know, I know... first world problems, but why does such a simplistic game require load times???

Bear in mind, these titles were original on the GAME BOY ADVANCE! The second somebody said "There's gonna be load times in the remake", I'd respond with "say what?", accompanied by a disappointed grunt.

Anyway, I did beat the main campaign on the first game, but still working on the harder difficulty campaign, which is pretty damn tough.

I know Baldur's Gate 3 isn't necessarily the right genre for those who post here nowadays, but you will all get the other half of this reference at least. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cw41oP0rQXu/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

It's a fantastic game, despite this video poking fun at it.

ha ha ha, what a funny story, Variety of Cells.  ;D

I've been playing the demo of Crystal Project on the Switch and.... it's a pretty sweet game! It's almost like a 3D realization of the original final fantasy, with a world that looks very much Minecraft. Beautiful music, charming animation, and a fun battle system and atmosphere overall.

Pak? you might enjoy this one. The demo is free.

K, so sadly I'm a lot less keen on vg consoles than I used to be. I'm just too enamored with retro games, and really not super happy with current gen consoles emulating classic games. Don't get me wrong, I love my NES, SNES, GENESIS classics/minis, but consoles have just gone in a direction that doesn't work for me. I almost have no desire to even play my Switch anymore.

For me, it really says something(not good) when i barely even want to play Tetris 99, but little else on my Switch, even though I've got a ton of Digital games.

Speaking of... why the fuck does Tetris 99 have load times??? Why does Advance Wars reboot camp have Load times???

This is quite the long-running thread. Someone joked on page 1 about waiting for Duke Nukem Forever.

I've got little time for games these days, but the random running around I get to do in Breath of the Wild has kept me occupied for half an hour here and there on evenings. I thought I was "done" with the game, but after I beat Ganon, it tells me that I've only "completed" 25% of the game, so... more random exploring it is.

I liked BotW.  I quit TotK about a third of the way through because I didn't like the "build stupid shit" mechanic very much.

Heh, my children are finding things in BOTW that I'm still not. I've had fun with it so far, but if TOTK is anything like it, I might skip it.

I always liked the balance between exploration and progression in the Zeldas. It's almost like ALTTP was a "Metroidvania" in itself, what with opening up new areas to explore once you find beat dungeons. Ah, well.

I played "The Book of Unwritten Tales" a long time ago, and I guess I liked it, because I've had #2 on my wishlist for years. GOG finally had it on sale for 90% off, so I finally bought it. I suppose once I get a few minutes free, I'll try that one out.

I just got a copy of the new release of Riven on Steam.

Variety of Cells

And I just beat Riven on Steam. I played about 90% of it in VR too. But there were some bugs with VR that forced me to play in 2D for a bit to get around them. Really liked the remake though. Lots of memories from that game.

Pastor of Muppets

I recently decided to dive into the Final Fantasy series.  I have played through #7 a few times, and #9 once.  I played #11 (the first MMORPG in the series) extensively on and off for 20 years.  I played #14 (the other MMORPG) briefly around the time of its initial 2010 launch.  Now I decided to start from the beginning and play the unplayed ones in order.  I started, of course, with #1.  I do have an emulator copy of the NES version on my NES Mini console, but I decided instead to do it all on Steam and I purchased a pixel remaster version instead.

It's pretty short by RPG standards.  The in game clock says it only took me 13 hours.  Last time I played #7 it took over 80.  Also, I over-leveled so most of the enemies, including bosses, were complete pushovers.  That made it really shocking when I made it to the last boss and had a real fight on my hands.  Regular attacks did hundreds of points of damage and were able to 1 shot my Black Wizard and White Wizard.  I wonder what that would have been like if I hadn't been in the low 50s.

Well, onward to Final Fantasy 2 next.
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

Coming in to reply to myself from half a year ago. My wife got me/us/our children TOTK for Christmas. I've basically only played the game by finding all the towers and lightroots, and I'm going to work on finding all the shrines... then I'll start playing the game for real. My proudest "creation" so far is The Little Row-Boat That Could. It was a self-propelled, wildly unbalanced plank of wood with wheels on the side, struggling with all its might across a small pond. It was hilarious to watch.

Replying to myself from a year and a half ago, TOTK is ... surprisingly not old news yet. My kids picked it up again, and they're still going through it. My son finally beat Ganon all on his own, and he was so proud of himself. He's better at the game than I am. And I have decades of gaming on him! Ah well...

I just started :THE LONGING:. Evidently it's some kind of... idle game? Neat mechanic where a timer starts and then doesn't stop for 400 days. So, I'll get to the "end" of the game only by next year, whether I actually "run" the game or not. But... obviously better to run it. Find out what's going on, etc.

Oh yeah, I tried "You Will Die Here Tonight." That one was wild. Neat concept. Had a kind of third person horror, Resident Evil style (even though I've never played RE). But it also would go to first person while you whack at zombies. Fun.

Okay, talk to me next year.

P.S. What's a guy gotta do around here to not have to do all the verifications before posting?
