So one of the big draws seems to be these live events, but... what about those of us that live on the other side of the world in radically different timezones?

or, hell, the same time zones, but just a bit too far north?

The live events they're talking about will be virtual in the Gizmoplex.

I hope they continue the plotline from the end of the last season, with Kinga and Max in their own theater.

If you zoom in on the little ticket things on the Kickstarter, one of them is for Max and Kinga's riff of Mr. B Natural, so I assume that's in the plans.

I think this is a good one to support because of the Gizmoplex so they aren't dependent on a network. But I hope this is the last Kickstarter. We kicked it, it's started. They don't want to be like churches who keep passing the collection plate around over and over again during the service.

I could see them going for lower Kickstarters on an annual basis, like RiffTrax does. $500,000-$1,000,000 might be sustainable, but asking for 5.5 million a year would not.

Without add revenue or the monthly subscription fees of Netflix they will have to make money somehow.  So far they have not outlined any way to make money outside the the $0.99 charge to invite a friend to watch an episode with a backer, which is not going to make them much money at all.  It feels like they are looking at doing a kickstarter every season, but, as others point out, with reduced costs of they are able to have some of this infrastructure standing already.

I'm for it, and I hope this model works.  Hopefully it will allow fans with more money to help fans with less.  We'll see how it goes.  I'd love it if they got all 12, but I'm not sure.

The pledge rewards are X months of access to the Gizmoplex, so obviously it's going to be a subscription thing. But elsewhere (I think in the interview on the AV Club maybe? Or possibly the Kickstarter video) I believe he also mentioned watching things you 'own' so possibly you can buy VODs or subscribe?

At my pledge level I will be able to download and own the episodes. The way the campaign was worded made it sound like they are trying to get away from the monthly subscription binge model where you subscribe for a month, watch everything, and then unsubscribe. It could be a monthly subscription with emphasis on live events spaced out. But it also sounds like it could be a 'pay for a ticket for each show' sort of thing.

My understanding is you can get a pass to access the Gizmoplex, but the episodes won't be released all in one big drop. They'll be out when they're ready. And Gizmoplex access gives you the ability to watch a rotating selection of classic and new MST3K, plus any episodes you happen to own digitally from this or any previous kickstarters.

My suspicion is there will be a subscription, and there will also be a way to digitally "buy" episodes to watch when you want. Not unlike the Rifftrax Friends model.

That is exactly what it sounds like to me.

Quote3. I just want to see the new episodes. How do I do that?
If you don't care about owning all of the new episodes we make, but still want to see each one as it comes out, the Gizmoplex Pass will be your new best friend. We'll still need to work through some technical details after the Kickstarter ends, but I'll tell you how we're hoping to make it work.

Once we have our first new episode finished, we're planning to start holding live episode premiere events in The Gizmoplex once a month, until we've shared all of the new episodes the Kickstarter lets us make.

Each month of Gizmoplex Pass access gets you a ticket for another episode premiere, until we've premiered all of our new episodes (and, if things go well, our new shorts).

So yeah, just to spell it all out for you...

A 3 MONTH PASS gets you tickets to the first THREE live premieres.
A 6 MONTH PASS gets you tickets to the first SIX live premieres.
A 9 MONTH PASS gets you tickets to the first NINE live premieres.
A 12 MONTH PASS gets you tickets to all TWELVE live premieres.
Now, we can only premiere 12 new episodes if we get to make 12 new episodes... but no matter what happens, we'll make sure there's at least one event in The Gizmoplex each month for a full year.

So, if we don't have enough new episodes to premiere one each month, we'll still host other special live screening events. And don't worry, whether we're watching new episodes or not, we'll make sure the events are a really special "MST3K" experience.

That plus this quote makes me very excited:

Quote from: JoelAnd, since I've seen a lot of you asking, I'll also tell you that we've also got some big plans to expand the world – and cast – of Mystery Science Theater 3000, so... I'll tell you more about that soon.
