Joel just posted this:

Hey everyone, it's Joel. I hope you're all staying safe and well during the pandemic.

I know you're probably wondering why I'm writing, especially after so much time has passed since our last Backer Update. Well, it's because we have some BIG NEWS, and as one of the backers who #BroughtBackMST3K, I want you to hear it from me first:

Tomorrow morning – after 6 years, 20 episodes, 2 seasons, 6 comic books, and 3 live tours – Mystery Science Theater 3000 is returning to Kickstarter to launch our next campaign.

We've got some pretty ambitious plans, and I hope you'll be as excited about them as I am. I'll tell you a lot more tomorrow, when we launch. For today, I wanted to give all of you a chance to jump to the front of the line, so you'll have the first shot at our new rewards.

If you want to get notified as soon as our new Kickstarter goes live, just go here and let us know.

And before all the craziness starts, I just want to thank you again. Six years ago, thanks to your enthusiasm and support, we changed the course of Mystery Science Theater forever.

And starting tomorrow, together, we'll have the chance to do it again.

Cheers & Thanks,

Pak-Man

I wonder if they're planning to control their own distribution this time rather than trying to get it onto another network.

I just hope it's not just for a live tour.

Someone found the HTML for the page, which made the Kickstarter video viewable. Joel is proposing a Gizmoplex streaming service. With the goal of premiering a new episode and a new short once a month.

So MST3K isn't beholden to a network and gets to keep going as long as the fans are willing to keep ponying up in Kickstarter campaigns. Seems more or less like what Rifftrax does with their live shows, except the goal is way higher because they're producing a proper TV show.

I imagine without that extra Netflix cash the production value will be a bit cheaper and the movies won't be confined to stuff that looks good in full-screen HD. That addresses most of the fans' issues with the Revival/Gauntlet. Jonah seems to be involved, which makes me happy, but I was also kinda looking forward to seeing what Emily could do as host. Maybe they'll tag-team movies, or even have 2 human-riffers in the theater?

I assume once the platform is built they will sell future episodes? So they won't have to continually kickstart. And non-backers will be able to buy the episodes that way.

That's my guess anyway.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they add Cinematic Titanic too.

I hope they continue the plotline from the end of the last season, with Kinga and Max in their own theater.

Please let this be the Season they finally tackle Arena...

It's live and already at almost $500,000 after about an hour. I'm pretty sure we're getting our Gizmoplex.

That reminds me, I still need to see that movie.

Personally, I hope they finally riff Killdozer. and The Green Slime.

Could have sworn you already did and posted about it.

So one of the big draws seems to be these live events, but... what about those of us that live on the other side of the world in radically different timezones?
