It was the mid-90s and parents everywhere were FREAKING OUT about Mortal Kombat.

"Think of the children!" they wailed. "They might wander into an arcade, innocent and wide-eyed, pop a quarter into Mortal Kombat machine, and the next thing you know they'd be... SPELLING THINGS WITH UNNECESSARY K's!!!"

Well, that never really came to pass, and the so-called "violent" video games of the 90s are now quaint relics. We think we saw somebody get throttled with their own intestines in a Paw Patrol mobile game the other day. But hey - at least we got this dumb-as-hell movie out of it!

Shang Tsung is having a tournament and has invited all your favorite characters: Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, and some guy named Art. Raiden was unable to attend, so Christopher Lambert was the natural choice to fill in as the Japanese Thunder God. Everything that kids liked about the game is here. Except for the blood. Well, and the gory fatalities. But there's plenty of jokes involving luggage! Those must have only been available on the Atari Jaguar version...

Please join Mike, Kevin, Bill, and Noob Saibot for Mortal Kombat!

Son of a gun. I forgot this one completely otherwise I would have gotten it like I did Gymkata. Looks like I'm going online to grab a DVD (I prefer physical media)

Anyone know which DVD release has the proper widescreen (anamorphic)? I bought the 2009 double feature version which turned out to be letterbox ("black bar") widescreen.

Pastor of Muppets

I decided to watch this unriffed first.  Oof that was rough.  This movie is just so god damn awful.  The villains suffer from "Informed Ability" trope.  They talk up how unbeatable and powerful they are, just to watch one after another get killed in 5 minutes by random schmucks.

The writing is terrible and cliched.  The acting was awful.  The cast was full of nobodies.  The whole plot was ticking off elements from the game.

Looking forward to watching the Rifftrax.
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

BathTub

This was great! I somehow missed this release, it was when I was in and out of hospital, but it's definitely worth picking up. With Face/Off coming out I hope we see more of these JTJ releases!
