Time is hard and stuff. It took me way longer than it really needed to to figure out what time that is Central Time. Me dumb.
what is that 1?
That's right when I get out of class. I might have time for the game for once.
7pm? Sounds like a plan.
Hmm... Indy 4 is out in a couple of weeks....Temple of Doom rifftrax anyone? :)

The next Chronicles of Narnia movie will be released a week from tomorrow (which is when I assume the next Rifftrax will be released). Knowing Rifftrax, I'd bet on the first Chronicles of Narnia movie. :-\
Here's hoping I can make it for this one. :)

Just finished faux Star Trek, so I can speculate now. (Faux Kirk was awful. How on earth did they manage to find someone worse than Shatner?)
Personally, I'd like to see them do The Seeker: The Dark is Rising, as it is one of the more hilariously bad movies I've seen in a while. I acknowledge, however, that this is unlikely.
Hmm... They're holding it in the morning- or Dawn... And it's on Friday- Fried things are hot and hot things are red... Is it Double Dragon?

AVP:R
I keep saying, AVP:R is a poor choice to riff, because one of it's primary problems is it being too dark (visually, not tonally). Sure, everything else lends itself to great riffing, but not being able to see anything means a lot of "what is going on? I can't see anthing!" jokes that would get old fast.
AVP, on the other hand, is just as ludicrous (if not moreso), has less blood (Mike and the b...guys have been quite squeemish about gore before), and Paul WS Anderson REALLY has it coming.
So I'm hoping it'll be AVP.
Oh, and I'm really hoping for HULK around when The Incredible Hulk comes out in theaters.

There actually are PG rated horror movies. The main one that comes to mind and would fit the 2000-2006 range is Monster House, which is also a kids movie.

Kinda have to have the same story line to be a remake. IMHO at least. The new one has zero similarity to the old one except for the title.

Not since Beckett's immortal Waiting for Godot has the drama of two men locked in a filthy bathroom and brutalized by a crude ventriloquist dummy on television captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. RiffTrax Presents Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett riffing on the original, jaw-splitting, skull-drilling, Danny Glover-ing, fat naked dead man-showing movie that started it all, if by "all" you mean a five-movie franchise that's now as tired as Bruce Willis at the end of 16 Blocks.
PARENTAL ADVISORY!!!: The Movie Saw is rated R for its extremely graphic and grisly violence and excessively foul language. This RiffTrax is intended for Mature Audiences only. Parental discretion not only is strongly advised, it just makes plain good common sense.

Interesting. A Mike-free rifftrax. Too bad its a very graphic horror movie. I'll be avoiding this one for that reason.
Oh dear! Well, I'm out for this one. I'd never sleep again. You all enjoy and I'll see you for the next RiffTrax. (I guess Mike didn't give it the go-ahead after all, at least not in terms of participating!)
Maybe it's Freddy vs. Jason or something. Mike, Bill and Kevin have been quite squeemish about gore in the past, so I doubt it's Saw or Hostel. If it's either one of those, I probably won't see it. I hate that genre.
Looks like I'll be watching this one by myself. Kids aren't allowed and my wife doesn't like the violence.

I laughed and laughed at that too. Mostly because I imagine him saying after they cut: Cash this check!
I wondered after yesterday's announcement if Kevin and Bill would get a chance to do one on their own.
Didn't take long to get an answer.
If you guys wanted to show how different Rifftrax Presents can be from Rifftrax you certainly succeeded. Mike wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot poll.
Maybe we'll see a Showgirls riff someday after all.
Wow I NEVER expected Rifftrax to tackle a movie like this! Glad to see it, this movie SO has it coming! What an overrated piece of crap! By the way, if you've never seen it, it's not as gory as you might think. Most of the really gross stuff is implied and not shown.
Does this mean that the Red Dawn riff that is coming is going to be a solo riff?
Nevermind. Answered my own question. From Amazon:
QuoteThe Uncut Edition differs only slightly from the theatrical release; it reinserts a little more gore that was cut to get an R rating and tightens up the editing (the uncut version is actually a teensy bit shorter than the theatrical release).
So, like 15 seconds difference in the two. Arrgh.

Also I updated the release dates for the next Trek release and the House of Wax riff. The 28th, so says the big boss.

That occurred to me, but as you say, "so far." They haven't really been marketed as "RiffTrax without Mike" as far as I can see, so I'm not sure if that was supposed to be the big difference. Unless I'm overthinking the whole thing, which is all too likely. :)

Oh, I agree with you fully. But the whole concept of Rifftrax Presents so far seems to be centered around releasing things they know won't appeal to everyone. Like I said, I don't like Saw, but I'm glad they've made a place where I might get to see a riff of something that appeals only to me and a few people like me.

That'd be an interesting riff. Find a film where somebody supposedly died on-camera (like, say,
Snuff), go through the movie as one normally would, and during the credits, they can be all, "HAHA, WE'VE GOT YOU NOW!" and the rest of the RiffTrax is made up of the sound effects of them calling the police on them and the police going in and arresting the crew for first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, accessory to murder, and a few counts of jaywalking, just to really kick them while they're down.

I went to rent it a while back at Blockbuster and it was cheaper to buy than to rent there, so that's an option for some people. Some of us, like me, might actually own two copies. One of the regular, and one of the special edition. Some of us might be on watch lists for this, I don't know.

I think I wound up with both versions, thinking the directors cut was somehow going to be glaringly different. I'll try synching it up with the uncut ones to see how far off it gets. If I remember right the added portion was very near the end of the film when Elwes is cutting off his own foot.

I was disapointed with some of the more recent Rifftrax that have come out... but then last night I saw New Voyages and thought "THATS the Rifftrax I know and love. All right. They're back on track!!"I
But this movie... um... Is the whole thing going to be like the opening riffing to Xmen?
What happened to all the good "goofy" movies like Wonka or Roadhouse?
I don't want to be complainer, I've been a fan since day one, but...

Releasing on May 13th!
Next 20q's on May 14th!

Gah. Add me to the list of people who are disappoined in this choice. I'm not saying they shouldn't do it -- obviously there are people who are excited about it. I'm just disappoined because I'm bummed I'll be missing out on this. I can't handle the gore. :gouge:
But this isn't Rifftrax, it's Rifftrax Presents. You guys, I guess, need to stick to the regular plain Rifftrax. That's why they gave them a differentiating title.

AND one Cary Elwes movie down puts us that much closer to my dream of a riff of "The Crush."
guys/gals, I just updated my main page on my fan site (http://www.rifftraxfan.com/). I inputed the most recent 2 of each RiffTrax type: RiffTrax Presents, RiffTrax Full Features and RiffTrax Shorts.
And I just gotta say 2 things:
1) Wow, do we ever have a plethora of riffing to choose from
and
B) Its great to be a RiffTrax fan :-*
Well, darn. This one's too gory for us old folks, so my Rifftrax collection will no longer be complete.
Perhaps if someone was to make alternate video for this that was less gory? Maybe with hand puppets or something? ;)

Au contraire, mon frere. Saw was
extremely funny before, largely because Elwes' acting (and accent) are hysterically bad throughout. The jumpcuts-in-lieu-of-directing and the completely retarded twist ending are pretty humorous, too.
As a horror fan, I heartily approve of this RiffTrax Presents release. If what it takes for them to riff a horror film is for Mike to sit it out, then so be it. Maybe we'll get a new solo riff out of it, to boot.
I've never seen any of the Saw franchise because it's not my thing. Gruesomeness doesn't entertain me.
But I will watch it now... because now it's a RiffTrax. And funny entertains me.
So you'd better be funny, Murphy & Corbett! :: shakes fist ::

I would like to jump in and defend my sweet Westley. In his defense, everyone's acting sucked in this movie (Glover might have been the worst actually) so I think they were poorly directed and reading dumb lines. My theory has always been that James Wan doesn't know how to direct people and Leigh Whannell doesn't know how to write dialogue. But dammit they know torture and dummies and they know twist endings, and dammit they're gonna use 'em. And again, this is coming from someone who actually really likes this movie.

Don't get me wrong, I like Elwes, and I share your contempt for Wan and Whannell -- oh, how I share it! But bad direction and writing doesn't excuse Cary's morphing accent, nor the kind of painfully stilted delivery on display here. Which is really too bad, because it makes it a lot more difficult to defend what is generally a pretty decent modern horror film.
Danny Glover probably does do a worse job, but his character's presence in the film is so totally pointless and inconsequential that I barely notice him.
Have you ever seen The Crush? Seriously. I am a total broken record about this movie, but A) it's (unintentionally) hilarious, and B) his accent does the most insane things I've ever heard. It's amazing. He can't even say Alicia Silverstone's character's name. It's ADR'd and still sounds ridiculous. My man cannot do accents.

And in a shocking development, he's playing a creepy apparent psychotic.
Horror films have long been underrepresented among Rifftrax films. I mean, they didn't even do a horror film for Halloween last year! I have gotten the impression that Mike isn't comfortable with graphic material, which is certainly his choice. But I'm delighted that they've found people who do want to riff horror films because, even as a fan, I'm all too aware of the many areas within this genre begging for parody.
Just do a zombie horror film next. Pretty please!
This is another Rifftrax of a film I never thought I would ever watch. (The Grudge, Wickerman, Crossroads, Glitter) And yet, I just put it on the top of my netflix queue. If only I can sneak it past my wife . . . . .
But they should totally do all the original George Romero Zombie movies.
(One time I met George Romero and I told him, "Hey, I like your zombie movies."
He said, "Don't scare me."
. . . I was like WTF??? Don't look at me . You are the one writing and directing them. I didn't come up with the idea of pulling a dude in half and eating his guts while he is still screaming. I just watched it.)
Wow, Saw......... I actually own this movie and found it to be totally non-scary and not very gory.
The concept of more adult commentary interests this little boy a lot.
Very nice concept!
Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod. I love this movie. It's so goofy and fun and loud and gory and the only fake accent worse than the one Cary Elwes uses in this one is... well, the accent he used in The Crush. And now I get it with Kevin and Bill?!? Are you sure you can't bump up the release date to, say, right now? I am totally stoked. To those who are complaining about this I have one thing to say (and it's gonna be NASTY!):
You are entitled to your opinion and I respect it, though I disagree.
ZING!
And the unicorn cover will forever be, in my mind, the official cover for this track. Brilliant job on it.

"No", and "thank you." "No" as in "hell no, I won't watch this" and "thank you" as I know this is an honest attempt to make me laugh, and that is appreciated.
It's Rifftrax Presents, it's experimental, and I want Rifftrax to try new things.
I just...can't do this one. There's enough brutality and horror in the world without having to put up with this.
A tip of the hat and a wish that Rifftrax Presents is successful with this anyway.
-Alleged.
I can see how this movie isn't for everybody, but the first Saw isn't nearly as gory or absurd as the sequels. I can certainly see how this could be a good riff. I thought the funniest thing about the movie was Danny Glovers character. :D
It's odd but I'd never noticed how fluffy and squishy mst3k (and it's spinoffs) fans can be. Following on from the rather tame "Dog Scene" in I am Legend that got lots of people upset it isn't much of a surprise to see SAW being rejected as it is by some. Personally (selfishly) I'm looking to give SAW a try. But then I couldn't fathom people getting upset about a cgi dog that gets choked to death off camera either.
I also think it makes sense to just have Bill and Kevin do something like this. It feels like Mike went out of town on business and couldn't find a babysitter so he had to leave them on their own, like in some wacky 80's movie. SAW is the house wrecking party that followed.
Mike doing SAW would've felt kinda wrong somehow.
Wow, Well I guess that makes three in a row that I won't get.
Although I love the rifftrax presents New Voyages riff. That was awesome.
How doing something like Minority report or US Marshalls or Planet of the apes (remake)
I'll even take Wrath of Kahn.
I don't think horror movies make good riffing material.
OK I've ranted enough. I still love Rifftrax ;D

There are all kinds of Rifftrax (& MST3K) fans out there. It's not like you accidentally walked into the hemophobiacs' support group. And it isn't like MST3K/Rifftrax was actively trying to drive away the squeamish. They wanted/want all the fans they could/can get.
And for the record, the dog was not CGI. It was real, and it was arguably the most sympathetic character (and best performer ;D ) in the movie. I won't fight this entire battle again, but I'll just say that making you feel for her death was a success for the movie.
P.S. Pssst! Chiliking! Look down there!

This will certainly reaffirm my belief that no movie is beyond riffing. I'm really looking forward to it, it could provide my in-flight entertainment if I find time to download it in the terminal on Wednesday. I'm disappointed that so many people seem to be passing this up though.

Excellent. Not my kind of movie, and I won't buy it, but that means that sometime they'll do a "my kind of niche movie" too. I won't be seeing this, but it sounds like plenty will. So, all you RT employees and mods and geniuses--great job being responsive to whiny, bitchy fans. I think this is a great step, and I look forward to hearing how funny Bill and Kevin were in this one.
Seconded. No, thirded. No wait, dozen-ed? New Voyages had me on the floor, and I'll definitely buy whatever else they do. Saw is just in that category of untouchable for me. "Saw" it a while back. And that was really as close to daymares as I wanna be. If they make it funny, it proves their genius. Not that it needs proving. ^_^
You know, I've seen Saw several times (though, I could never actually speak that statement without tripping over my own tongue). Maybe I'm crazy or something, but I didn't really find it that grisly. Most of the shots with all the gore are shot so dark and murky most of what's going on is left in your imagination. The movie, while it certainly is violent, is no Cannibal Holocaust. It's not even as gruesome as Hostel. I guess this says more about me than it says about people who get squeamish about these sorts of movies.
Oh, and I'd like to point out to everyone that this will be the first Riff of a movie with Shawnee Smith in it and really, it's about time. Maybe, just maybe, we'll be treated to a riff of The Blob remake (a total pipe dream, I know).

It really is not that gory. The sequels and other films like Hostel are, but this one really is not that bad.

Of course, I was the one who could not watch I am Legend due to the dog killing, but I can watch this stuff. There IS some gore of course.

Okay, fine. Then call it the premise which I don't want to get involved in. I haven't seen Silence of the Lambs either, and I know it isn't gory, but...meh. I'd rather not find myself emotionally distressed over a movie. Again, I applaud the branching out of the catalog, and I'm glad that a bunch of you will be enjoying this--it's just not for me.
I find Silence a lot more disturbing than Saw. Why, you may ask?

i'm very happy they are doing SAW, but sad Mike isn't coming along... i really wonder whether it's personal issues or just he needs a break, scheduling, etc.
Horror movies are a main vein of mst3k so i don't know why everyone is so suprised they'd do a SAW type movie.... i actually wished for one like a week ago. I've read like half the full thread so hope i'm not restating anything... btw did someone here say they didn't wanna see saw but wanted to see Romero's original zombie movies done? wow...maybe i'm mixing replies in my head
As far as the gore... didn't anyone see 'the incredible melting man' mst3k .. even though it was edited there was still some stomach churning stuff.... usually inspiring pretty funny reactions from the gang.
When it comes to Hostel and Saw type movies, I think people are more disturbed by what's been dubbed 'torture porn' because of how close it is to reality... Well when it comes to violence in movies... i believe it should be disturbing, real, and gritty.... It's the pg-13 ultra violent movies that corrupt society if you ask me... people shooting left and right, but nobody dies.. is that reality? On top of that... most of the reasons i've heard people state for not going to see a movie was something they thought they'd seen implied in the trailer that never even happens onscreen (toe clipping from Hostel).
The original SAW remains just a classic B horror movie for me.... the sequels definitley upped the sadistic factor. Hostel movies, while very very intense, are really well done if you ask me.
Anyway bravo for choice, but wish Mike was there. And yeah, keep expanding catalogue with not just recent releases plz.

Neither, really. It's just something that Kevin and Bill wanted to do as part of our new RiffTrax Presents catalogue (or, sub-catalogue).. Although I do know Mike wasn't a fan of the movie.

K.
TP! While you're here...Are the italicized dates next to the titles in the Rifftrax Presents page their release dates?
Yes. I know there are some catalog areas where they are missing - little bugs on my list I haven't got to yet.
Anything else I can help with?
Thx for quick response... :)
Currently watching 'lost' riff for first time as i type... and rented Saw for tomorrow.
Well if Mike didn't like 'Saw' i wonder if 'Dead Silence' is ever in the running since it's from same director who i really think has a great appreciation for old style horror. C'mon... puppets, ghosts, big nasty ghost tongues... 'Dead Silence' for reccomendation. I actually really like the movie, but my most loved are usually the funnier... (LOTR).
Is this the part where i list other stuff i wanna see riffed? ok, quit twisting my arm...
umm, do that one movie where on the poster the guy had a gun!!!

Yeah, it's May 13 in most parts of the world (if not all of them). Gimme my RT! ;) :D

That makes three of us.
It really is not that gory. The sequels and other films like Hostel are, but this one really is not that bad.
I saw parts of it on *Sci-Fi* and it was too nasty for me. I'll pass.
QuoteIt's odd but I'd never noticed how fluffy and squishy mst3k (and it's spinoffs) fans can be.
Seriously. Someone politely told me to seek crass humor elsewhere because I was one of the people who wanted the beeps taken out of Revenge of the Sith. The word fuck was implied, why not just say it. It's not like saying Voldemort.
On that note, I hate the slasher/horror genre. It's just stupid. I don't get grossed out, I know it's fake and looks fake...I just worry about the people who think it up an enjoy it. I just don't get it. Be a doctor if you enjoy seeing that shit.
Now, if I can watch it and have other people make fun of it...happy days!
I saw this movie (no pun intended) and it was OK, but not my thing. A comedic addition however is very intriguing. I would also enjoy a few more R rated Rifftrax (though all these "clean" ones have a ton of innuendo in them).
I will watch this tomorrow.
