Ahhhh crud. Missed out on the entire thing. After page 5, I was sure it was Chain Reaction. Starred Keanu, Sci-fi, based on a book, not animated, based in the future...

But I guess another Keanu movie would have been too much. ;)

P.S. : What makes the director's cut different than the pg-13 cut, other than an extra 3 minutes?

Is it nudity, or cursing, or extra violence...

According to the imdb, it looks like the director's cut contains slightly more violence, but overall is just longer and more torturous.

Much like the difference a few extra thrusts into a pie could make.  ;)

"I just want to credit everyone who contributed towards figuring this out.

I think we all need a group hug after all this."

Yes, good job everyone!  Perhaps in the future we could have official guessers, so as to cut down on the questions missed?  Just an idea.

Sure.  People whose post counts are over 700!   ;D

I think your idea, while cutting down on the stupid and irrelevent questions, would exclude people from feeling like they're involved.

I agree, BUT.....We blew the twenty questions and we only had one left, so I have no problem with the guys that have contributed the most to the board taking the lead in this case, what do you think?

May I humbly suggest:

Change the rules of the game in these respects:

1. NO MOVIE GUESSES until the last question.
2. Questions that directly contradict a previous answer are not counted, and the asker is no longer eligable to win the free rifftrax.
3. The last question may only be asked by an elected/consensus choice question-asker, following a discussion of the 19 answers given.
4. The free rifftrax goes to the Most Valuable Player, i.e. the one that makes the best contribution to figuring out the answer during the debate.

I've got a better idea for the 20 questions...

I think the Admins should *award* the chance to ask a question; they will only answer the question if you have a *credit* to use towards asking a question. You can win credits by doing a good deed (like advertising RiffTrax somewhere, or helping a newbie, or answering a help request in the tech support section), or the Admins could have smaller contests to award credits.

That way, you dont get random people taking stabs in the dark. You have to spend a credit to ask a question.

What do you think?

BathTub

Just complicates things, makes more work for the mods, this is just a fun way for them to promote the next release, it shouldn't require to much work on their part. I think a lot of the 'stress' on this on was the forums failing.

I do think changing who gets the free rifftrax around a little might help- I'd guess most of the random stab questions are because guessing the movie gets you a rewards, whereas asking intelligent and useful questions gets one for someone else.

I agree.  I thought the free Rifftrax was a good idea at first.  But if it's going to start generating more random movie guesses than good questions I think we should either change the way the free Rifftrax is given out or get rid of it completely.  I'm one who looks forward to 20 questions because I'm genuwinely interested in what the next Rifftrax will be.  I could care less about a free Rifftrax.  I'll gladly pay for mine.

So, it bugs the crap outta me when people are taking random shots in the dark.  It ruins it for people like me who are really interesting in seeing what the next Rifftrax will be.  Hell, maybe the new server will help rid us of that problem for the most part.  But if the next 20 questions goes anything like the last one, I suggest that either the free Rifftrax idea be changed or a new rule should be made up about movie guesses.  Just my two cents.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Sampo, those are good guidelines to follow but I wouldn't necessary make them "rules" for the game. That's part of what makes it fun!

Gammer, not sure we would be able to award credits etc. That would mean not everyone can have a shot at guessing.

I agree that the forums dying every couple refreshes was a pain in the ass, and we're working to fix that. I was hoping it would get done last night but some domain issues popped up, so I'm waiting at least another day to try it again.

Also, I think awarding the freebie to the MVP of the game is a fantastic idea. That way it's not based on who gets it right, but who was on the right track (or was able to further the game along the correct movie path). We'll take this into consideration for the next 20q's.

EDIT: Oh yeah - and the debating among each other seems to help! Communication is what made you guys formulate the correct movie title in the end. That, and research! :)

Killer Shrew

I can't believe it! I'm gone for one day, and look at all that happens.  I was looking forward to being involved in my 1st 20 Question game.  Oh well.  Maybe next time.  It's at least nice to see what the next rifftrax will be.

It was nice to read through to see what happened.  Too bad nobody won a free rifftrax.  Too many people taking stabs in the dark.  I like some of the suggestions people are coming up with to make the game better, especially rewarding the person who contributes the most.  They deserve it more than someone who just sneeks in at the right time and guesses the title.

Also, I have an idea: I think that if someone wants to guess the title of the film, someone else should second that guess or it doesn't count. That way, if everyone else doesn't think that the guess is right, it won't waste a question and it could stop random stabs in the dark.

I don't know.  Just an idea

I know this is really late, but after looking over the list of 1990's SciFi flicks I would like to point out that GHOST is a SciFi / Romance movie.  Obviously it couldn't have been a contender here (big hit, not based on a book, not set in future).  But it IS SciFi/Romance.

Hm.  Isn't it more Fantasy/Romance? I have no idea what constitutes Science Fiction, but there's no application of any technology that doesn't exist, it doesn't take place in the future, or have any aliens in it.  How about Supernatural/Romance? I suppose that's a sub-genre though...

The 2002 Clooney snoozer Solaris is also a Sci-Fi romance.

I thought it was interesting that on the Amazon product page for Moreau, the deal they try to push on you is a special price if you buy it at the same time as Sphere.  Maybe they're using twenty question type criteria for determining the details:
