You hypocritical bastards! You claim to love dogs, and yet you would refuse to see this movie and deny a royalty check to the canine actor that worked so hard to bring you ungrateful humans mindless entertainment!? How humane is it to force a dog to live on welfare checks, huh? Do you know how many dog actors commit suicide because they can't get the roles they want and barely make enough to get by? You people make me sick!

:grr:

Am I the only one who actually saw the damn movie in the theater?

I did, glad I did too.  A lot of the lighting, etc will lose it's effect on DVD.

WHAT lighting? Complete darkness followed by bursts of flashlight that blind you just as in real life does not constitute lighting.

we had to put our dog down last year, and it was the hardest thing we ever had to do, we still cry when we look at pictures....but if it helps, in the movie it was no longer a dog but a demondog......I mean, you wouldnt stop playing resident evil cuz you had to shoot zombie dogs would you?  No, you keep on playing shooting, jumping up and down and screaming "DIE YOU DEVIL MUTTS!! GO STRAIGHT TO HELL TO SIT ON SATANS LAP, YOU CANINE MINIONS OF EVIL, SUCK ON MY CHEWTOY OF HOT LEAD!!!!!   or is that just me.  It was hard to watch though, specially if you have a dog :(

It's not the zombie dogs that piss me off in RE: Umbrella Chronicles.  It's those goddamn jumping around monkeys!
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

EXACTLY!  the scene with his dog was awesome because they  weren't afraid to have the darkness be darkness.

But seriously, you knew it was gonna happen. Am I the only one who actually saw the damn movie in the theater?

You knew it was gonna happen just from the trailer.  The second I saw it I said "ah fuck they're gonna kill the damn dog."

I too was really messed up by that scene (and the subsequent video store scene) but if it's any consolation, it was an act of charity.  He was saving her from zombie demon vampire doggie-hood, and you watch his face as he has to kill his only friend.  It's pretty rough, but it's not as though he just randomly kills the dog or she gets killed by the other hellbeasts and that's it (which is what I thought was going to happen in the theaters).

You know, I actually watched this movie on DVD when my wife's niece was here from Mexico a couple months back, and I made her a copy to take back. Well, she forgot to take it out of my DVD player before she left, and I still had the disc, so I captured it with Pinnacle in preps for the RiffTrax upon my return next month ;D

They seemed to have liked it overall, but Yeah, as a dog lover myself, who had a German Shepard/Siberian Husky mix (he passed away just over 2 years ago of old age), and I was a bit 'annoyed' by that.. :-\

It's funny because I've always been annoyed by and never understood the whole "the dog always lives" mentality, I've often thought the coolest thing a disaster movie (since they're usually the culprits) could do would be kill the dog in the first 15 minutes.

However Smith's performance made me care about the dog and his death, one of the reasons I like this movie

Wow, I pray they call-back the Reloaded riff about "you know how some people can watch the most gory, violent films, but they freak out if a dog dies?" What a perfect firsthand example.

Speaking for myself, I don't watch gory films.  The pain of Sam the dog's death in I Am Legend was well set up and well justified.  She is Will Smith's only companion in an empty world, maybe the one thing keeping him sane.  Then she gets bitten by one of the demon-dogs, in the act of protecting him, and despite his best medical efforts, she starts changing into one of them.  He HAS to do it:  he HAS to kill his only friend, his only bond to the life he once knew, before she turns and kills him.  The movie does not revel in the violence, as others might, but it does wring every drop of agony from it.  Best scene in the movie. (A movie I'd rate as a little better than average overall, so you know where I stand.)

And yes, the movie does have its share of gratuitous "kill the revenants" violence, which you can take or leave as you like.  From my experience, it doesn't have a fraction of the wallop that that one long shot of Will Smith, suffering as he does what he must, did.

Yeah I don't imagine it's gratuitous and it most likely serves the narrative well (not having seen it I can only be so certain) but can't bring myself to watch it.

I'm the same way with Au hasard Balthazar which has some sort of important point behind the suffering of the Donkey, but I can't watch it because Donkeys are one of my favorite animals and seeing them in distress upsets me too much.

In the book, It took lines and lines of text for him to aquire the dog only to be capped off with "Within three weeks, the dog was dead".......he was infected before he even really got it. So you really didnt get to attached. That kinda sounds cold huh?.......In fact you were glad he was dead:)    Just kidding..I think I learned how to do this,  Heres my own personal devil dog on his first Chistmas.[

Guys/Gals,

I just watched this last night for the first time, un-riffed. And I gotta tell ya...the dog scene wasn't that bad. First off, they don't show the dog getting killed, and second of all, its just acting!!!! Damn it all people...this isn't even based on a true story, so its not like it never even happened!!!!

I'm sorry if you think I'm being heartless, but I can't even relate to how you fell, when the story is fiction. Trust me, the dog that played that part in the movie was treated better then any homeless person on the street in your hometown...and it still is.

You've got to give this RiffTrax a chance.
