Well... you know the first movie was a COMEDY right? A failed comedy, but a comedy nonetheless. It's not like they were ever TRYING to make a good movie.  This is just more of the same, not even really any more ridiculous. Obviously it's all a big ripoff of Gremlins' mixture of horror and comedy, which was already ripped off by Ghoulies. And Munchies. And others I'm sure.

The difference is Hobgoblins 1 was a badly done unfunny parody of Gremlins/Ghoulies/Munchies while Hobgoblins 2 looks like a badly done unfunny parody of Hobgoblins 1.
