QuoteHere's a strange, unexpected and interesting bit of news to kick off your Thursday. Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, star, co-writers and director of FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL have signed on with Disney to develop a new Muppets movie. Say what?! Apparently Segel's character in SARAH MARSHALL is a TV composer and is working on a project that features puppets. The Henson Company provided the puppets and that led to Segel pitching a new concept to Henson and Disney, which execs loved and bought on the spot. Segel brought his SARAH MARSHALL co-writer and director Stoller to the project. It's unclear if Segel would star in the film but Stoller has signed to direct.

I'm extremely jealous of Segel being able to write a Muppet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'd be true to the Muppets and not some Avenue Q look it's puppets behaving badly jokes for adults and farting for kids. I don't think that it'll be that way since Jason Segel is in the same age group as many of us and probably grew up watching the Muppets and Sesame Street and, so far, looks like he's competent enough to write something good especially in a situation like this.

Hope they do a good job with it. Most of the Muppet movies have been wonderful, but not the last few.

Disney own the Muppets now, so you better get used to it.

Hopefully since they've got some real talent here, it won't be another made-for-tv movie.

Doctor Who?

Disney owning the Muppets is the greatest crime in history.

If anyone else owned them all the movies would be out in Widescreen and every episode of both tv shows would be out on DvD.

Well, it IS a shame, but at least they get to cary on.

Jim was apparently weeks away from selling the Muppets to Disney when he died. And they were bankrupt when his kids took over.

I think Disney's last couple of offerings were not so hot, but I am hoping that with the right team they can bring them back. This news gives me a lot of hope.

Don't get me wrong I will be the first to cheer if this is good and I hope it will be,but let's face it Disney hasn't had the best track record since Walt died.

Here we disagree:

Robin Hood
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
Aladdin
The Lion King
Mulan
Fantasia 2000
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis
Lilo & Stitch

are all post Disney movies I really like/love:

Not to mention:

Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Who Framed Roger Rabbit

And the produced by Disney, but not really Disney movies (Just like the Muppets film in question):

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Narnia
The Pirates movies
Pixar

And lastly, Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island were both produced by Disney, and both were excellent.

Disney cops a lot of flack (and a lot of it is deserved) but they still make some great movies, even if they're not ALL winners.

Doctor Who?

I am not saying everything they have made since then is awful but you only have to tune into the Disney chanle to see that 90% of it is.

I like the first two Muppet movies made by Disney and From Space had it's moments, but I don't go in with any hope of anything made by Disney being good any more.

I LOVE From Space, but that is the only one Disney doesn't own, they had nothing to do with it, I think Columbia have the rights to it.

And TV shows at Disney are not given anywhere near the love or money that movies are, this is why I hope that the next one gets a theatrical release, and it looks like it will.

Don't get me wrong I like most of the movies on your list and From space had some great bits,it's just finding out that Gonzo was a n Alien seemed kind of cheap and I prefer him being a Whatever.

But that is just me.  The rest of the movie was pretty good.

I see that, but I did like the way that tied into "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday."
