There are some badass lookin dwarves in that pic!  Is it just me or does the dwarf second to Thorin's right look like John Rhys Davies?  Gloin?

I'm pretty sure you're right about that.

Yeah, they look like what I expected: a mixture of clown and Klingon.

Clown and Klingon are my favorite Morning Zoo DJs.

Eh he kinda looks like a klingon

as to the hoods and the beards and what not.  I dont think based on that description it would look very good on film.  Maybe your right and based on what you say it does kinda sound like they are changing the feel of the movie overall but i still like the look, and i like gimli's look too, although i did not like that they made him the comic relief.

If Peter Jackson were more worried about being faithful to the books, we would have ended up with Tom Bombadil.

Also, it looks to me like they all have beards.

Yeah, I hated his dwarves and elves in LOTR.  About the only things he got "right" were the Hobbits and the Shire, and even there he fucked up Merry and Pippin.  I don't care for the look, or the designs, and I think they show too much of a departure from the intent of the story and characters.

Thorin's supposed to be middle-aged, verging on old age.  Maybe the portrayal will show it, but I don't have faith.

I'm not asking for a 100% literal adaptation, which you may have reasonably assumed.  I was pointing those out to show how FAR he was from Tolkien, however, and that's a mistake, in my opinion, when you're doing a Tolkien movie.

fair enough to be sure.

I thought gollum was excellent as well as the ents.  Im not sure what you did not like about merry and pippin though.

Quote from: Imrahil on September 06, 2011, 11:21:37 AMThey're all described as wearing hoods in the novel; in fact, that's one of the KEY descriptors of them, their different colored hoods.  And  none of them wear armor until the Battle of the Five Armies, I think.

I just assumed this picture was their wardrobe from the battle. Is it actually from the journey?

Quote from: Imrahil on September 06, 2011, 12:45:55 PMand the fact that they're stealing vegetables and whatever is also pretty lame

To be fair, stealing vegetables was from the book...when the hobbits were children. :P

They are wearing the same costumes in Bag End, it looks like.

If you want the book why don't you just read the book and leave this thread alone?
