Did Tolkien ever score them, or did he just write the words?

I know, right? Hitler called people Hitler all the time, and they were like, "Dude! Not cool!" That's largely where he got his reputation.

Isaac does have Asperger's Syndrome, right?

Doctor Who?

If you want to know the truth i am the one with Asperger's Syndrome i also have ADD.

That is why my spelling is really messed up sometimes.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 14, 2008, 06:55:44 PMSo on the one hand it was too slow,on the other it was made for people with ADD?  That's the sort of thing that would kill a robot in Star trek.

Well, I never specifically said that, but it felt boring to me because they were trying to attract ADD viewers. This might be a little hard for you to understand, but I can often look at films, books, music, television, plays, and see something that not everyone will see.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 14, 2008, 06:55:44 PMSo what did Jackson do wrong again?  He didn't change that much compared to most movies based on books and the old animated version that you are holding up as the standard has even more changes.

The 1978 film cut some scenes, and added a couple of ideas that were perhaps suggested in the book, but nothing was changed.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 14, 2008, 06:55:44 PMif you would watch the behind the scenes stuff on the four disc sets you would know that the shots taken from the old animated version were done as a loving tribute by Jackson.

I would like to belief that if he didn't remake King Kong. Claim that as tribute all you want, but being a Kong fan ever since my childhood, I've always known that a remake would never top the original. Anyone who tries, in my eyes, is just trying to make money. They don't really care about the art of filmmaking. If someone offered me a Kong remake, I would refuse.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 14, 2008, 06:55:44 PMSo you want a shorter film but you also want them to spend half an hour going over the history of what they are smoking to make sure a few people don't think it's pot?

I don't want a shorter film. I don't want them to film the prologue-type stuff at the beginning of the book. I want it to be directed by someone who won't mess it up. Filmmakers make or break certain films. If Jail Bait had been made by anyone other than Edward D. Wood, Jr., it might have been good. (But Eddie cared about the art of film, so that's irrelevant.) Joel Schumacher messed up the Batman series. (But, on some level, I think he cares a little more about filmmaking than Jackson.)

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 14, 2008, 06:55:44 PMI didn't see their names in the credit, and i have watch the movies more times then you can count.

Well, perhaps you weren't paying attention. I've seen their names on the actual movies, but I don't actually own them, so here's IMDb's credits:

Harvey Weinstein   ....    executive producer

One of my nephews has Asperger's not sure about ADD though, in fact I'd say with him it's the opposite.

He's just three though so it'll be interesting to see how he grows.

Doctor Who?

Well i can only tell you how it's gone for me.

My mom had to hold me back from starting school for one year and then had to home school me because none of the schools around here had any programs at the time to deal with kids like me.

Also with me any way and I have read that this is true for other people like me I am great at things(and sometime very ahead or other kids my age)that have set rules like Science,History(as long as i can remember I have loved watching shows about history and reading history books),and math.  But anything where the rules change like spelling has me banging my head against the wall, even today I find it very hard to do anything that involves a lot of writing.

That is how it has gone for me any way.

Doctor Who?

Well, I never specifically said that, but it felt boring to me because they were trying to attract ADD viewers. This might be a little hard for you to understand, but I can often look at films, books, music, television, plays, and see something that not everyone will see.

Well i thought he did a good job for a modern movie of staying away +from those types of edits.

The 1978 film cut some scenes, and added a couple of ideas that were perhaps suggested in the book, but nothing was changed.

It also did the first two book in 80 minutes,if any movie was ever made for people with ADD it was that one.

Good for you.

I would just like to make it clear that King Kong is the first movie I can rember watching as a kid and it has always been in my top three films of all time.

Now you do know that Jackson first tried to make his own version of King Kong complete with Stop motion figures he built himself when he ten don't you.  I guess Jackson really must be the most greedy person on earth because he was making films for the money back then too.  Also if you are only going into films for the money you don't become a director, you become a producer.

He doesn't try to top the 1933 version,he just using the basic story and goes off and does his own adventure that I happen to think is just as good but i know most people didn't like it so i can't blaim you for that, but if you saw any of the behind the scenes stuff that came out you would know that he has been trieing to make a movie that nobody wanted for at least the last 20 years.  that is not the sort of thing you do unless you have a passion for the project.

Also you keep claiming to know why Jackson does things with out ever meeting him,are you a mind reader?

Also you always talk about Jackson as if he is pure evil you need to learn something, someone can make a movie you don't like and still care about it also making movies that you don't like doesn't make them satin.

I don't want a shorter film. I don't want them to film the prologue-type stuff at the beginning of the book. I want it to be directed by someone who won't mess it up. So you want the book put on the screen with out a single change.

Look the movie's credits read "Base on the Book" not "The book".

Look as someone who has been a Sherlock Holmes fan since i was a kid let me tell you something,no movie is ever going to capture everything that is in the book.  Some movie you are going to like for the parts or the book and some you are not. So far i have yet to see an adaption of The Hound of the Baskirvilles that i feel captures the true spirit of the book, but i would never say that the makers of those didn't care.  For one thing one of the worst adaptions(IMHO)was the one staring Jeremy Brett he and everyone on that show clearly cared a great deal but some how they made one of my least favorite version but that doesn't mean that they were only  in it "for the money" or that they "didn't care" it just means that I didn't care for what they did.

Well, perhaps you weren't paying attention. I've seen their names on the actual movies, but I don't actually own them, so here's IMDb's credits:

Oh what do you know, you learn something new every day.

I still don't see anything to show that they did anything more then put up cash, they sure as hell didn't write the script or direct the thing.

Other people aren't complete liars and utter hacks.

Again this is just a stupid attack based on your hatred and you have yet produce any proof beyond "I hate Jackson so that make him evil and anyone who dose not agree with me is stupid!!

I will not answer any more of this pointless name calling and if you do it in your next post I am done.

im FAIRLY sure he never scored them in any way but they still seemed important.  It would be cool to hear what goblins music sounds like.

There was a REALLY shitty Hobbit video game a couple of years ago that claimed to have spent hundreds of hours researching all of Tolkien's available works for details on how the various musics sounded, and put together a musical score for every part of the game that was based on the instrumental descriptions available in the books and appendices. Unfortunately, I never got to hear much of the music, because the game was so fucking terrible, I couldn't even make it through the demo. it was like a poorly conceived and choppily executed ripoff of Ocarina of Time, with very clumsy controls.

I wonder if anyone has the soundtrack available online somwhere. That, at least, might be worth a listen.

even if the game sucks i have a soft spot for that company.  I got to go to e3.  i forget which year, but it was the only one i EVER got to see.  their booth was the first booth i saw when i got their.  it was a total complete recreation of Bag end.  How can you not love that?  once i saw it i realized i was in nerd heaven.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 15, 2008, 07:40:02 AMIt also did the first two book in 80 minutes,if any movie was ever made for people with ADD it was that one.

Bakshi had a lot of problems with the studio. They really didn't understand what he was doing, or the book, and at the end they thought that it wouldn't make a difference if the sequel was made.

But considering all the problems he had to deal with, it is a fine film, and it is much truer to the spirit of the book than Jackson. There are moments in the live-action films where Jackson is so wound up in ripping off other filmmakers that he ends up completely bypassing the tone of Tolkien's writing, and resembling a really bad rip-off of, among others, Tim Burton (who actually worked the 1978 adaptation, as an inbetween artist).

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 15, 2008, 07:40:02 AMNow you do know that Jackson first tried to make his own version of King Kong complete with Stop motion figures he built himself when he ten don't you.

But he also claimed that he never saw Bakshi's film (initially), and that New Line ripped him off. He is a major liar and a fraud, but you can't see that, because you're too distracted by his crappy CGI.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 15, 2008, 07:40:02 AMyou always talk about Jackson as if he is pure evil you need to learn something

You're exaggerating things. Jackson simply needs to learn the basic fundamentals of storytelling, filmmaking, and that there is more to making movies than financial gain. Even Spielberg made Schindler's List. Where's Peter Jackson's personal, well-made, well-intentioned masterpiece? I'll tell you. THERE ISN'T ANY. He hasn't made a single good film.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 15, 2008, 07:40:02 AMSo you want the book put on the screen with out a single change.

No, I want the book adapted into a film that is both the complete story (Bakshi almost got there) and not total crap (sorry, Peter).

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 15, 2008, 07:40:02 AMI still don't see anything to show that they did anything more then put up cash, they sure as hell didn't write the script or direct the thing.

If you had been paying attention, I had credited them for possibly allowing for a three-part adaptation of the story when Jackson tried to do it in two films.

Producers have a lot of control over films. Good producers can respect the director's vision and simply put up the money for the films in question. If the producers meddle around with a film too much, it could be a disaster. The Weinsteins made a mess out of Terry Gilliam's The Brother's Grimm. Had Dimension not distributed the film, Gilliam would have produced better results. Had Gilliam not made the film, it would have been about the same, but the reputation of the director would have been better. Jackson's aesthetic was already poor, so I doubt the Weinsteins did more than, as you said, put up cash. But if you had been paying attention, I was stating that if I were to make LOTR now, I would not have the Weinsteins involved, because they are not the businessmen they were when Jackson's LOTR films came out.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on February 15, 2008, 07:40:02 AMAgain this is just a stupid attack based on your hatred and you have yet produce any proof beyond "I hate Jackson so that make him evil and anyone who dose not agree with me is stupid!!

Are you Peter Jackson? No, I didn't think so. Then why are you taking this so damned personal?

You know, I thought you'd have better rhetorics for your arguments. It's like a person who doesn't know how to defend someone is trying to defend Jackson.
