Today Only: Muse - "Absolution" MP3 album download $2.99! Not a bad album, I like Muse although I haven't listened to their new album yet. "Endlessly" is a great track.

Colin Meloy is only 13,705 followers shy of a million on Twitter (although I'm sure most of them are spambots). I wonder if he'll give me anything for being a follower when he had less than fifty thousand.

Sometimes Amazon's MP3 album sales continue on for a few days.

Last week Staples had 50-packs on for $10; that might still be happening.  Otherwise, I generally shop supermediastore.com.

That or meritline.com.

Okay, in case you missed this, it seems that Walmart is going after Amazon on certain upcoming hardcover  titles. First they were $10, then Walmart lowered them to $9 and Amazon followed suit.

Stephen King, "Under the Dome"
Sarah Palin, "Going Rogue"
James Patterson,   "I, Alex Cross"
JD Rodd, "Kingdom in Death"
John Grisham, "Ford Country"
Dean Koontz, "Breathless"
Linda Howard, "Ice"

Maybe this just proves how little the physical printing of these books actually costs them if they can still make any profit at that price...

And all these other books at $26 or $27 are complete rip offs?

Not really. The WSJ article noted that most hardbacks get sold to publishers for about 50% of the cover price and both Walmart and Amazon are losing 7 or 8 bucks per copy sold. So, if you buy them buy it from the company that you dislike the most.

Ooooh....companies intentionally losing money just to out do each other!  Let's go buy that stock!

Amazon loss leaders are more effective (on me) than at Walmart. If i need something at Walmart, the preferred method is go in and out as fast as possible... whereas I consistently waste hours trying to get my stupid Amazon cart up to 25 dollar free shipping... but in the end its worth it. Usually the items are random and unrelated, but its fun shopping at Amazon, Walmart not so much.

Oh, I know of "loss leaders".  And they work.   But those are usually things sold at cost.

Just wish there was a way to make Wal Mart "negative sell" themselves out of existence.  Other companies (Costco, for instance) can sell cheap and still not practice "scorched earth" everywhere they go.

I used to be a vendor and there's this supermarket in town here that used pop as a loss leader once and went in the hole in the thousands of dollars on it, so I don't think loss leaders are always just at cost.  Frito-Lay used to sell Walmart chips below cost so that they could try to make a profit off dips and other side items they sell around the Super Bowl and other holidays.

Well...can't believe I'm using a MST3K short for an example....you look at the ones "Out of this World" and "The Selling Wizard".

Makes sense to sell things that has low mark up and short shelf life if you can get people to buy stuff with higher mark up to go with it (toppings with ice cream or hamburger with buns).

And the chips thing make sense too.  Frito-Lay and Pepsi are the same company.  They want people to get thirsty.  It's why they give you free pretzels and salty stuff in bars....
