GalvaTRION

When I downloaded the script, I was horrified, and put into a depressed stupor for a week. After seeing the actual movie, I was angry, I mean, fist-clenching, ranting, red-eyed "HOW COULD GOD LET THIS HAPPEN" angry. When I saw it in theaters, I paid for tickets to Ratatouillie and walked into Transformers so I wouldn't be screwing the theater out of money, and I wouldn't be contributing to internet piracy.

This is one movie I'll make the exception for. I'm not giving Bay, Speilberg, the studios, or Hasbro a red cent for this satanically evil crap. This movie deserves to be dragged through the mud and beaten until it can't be recognized, and for Kevin, Mike, and Bill doing so, I will buy their riff.

I watched Bay's commentary and he actually says twice that the fans were right.  Right on keeping Peter Cullen and changing Megatron's face.  The reason why he didn't have Frank Welker was because he didn't feel that the voice sounded right for his picture and didn't want to tell Frank that he would have to change his voice.

I actually didn't support his decision to replace Frank Welker. Not so much because it's FRANK WELKER, but more because I feel the decision was based on a really subjective opinion. Honestly, if Bay was listening to the fans on certian issues, particularily vocal work, he should have listened to us on that too. They show the movie footage of Megatron with Frank's voice on the behind the scenes feature on the DVD, then Hugo's. Honestly, Frank's voice worked and didn't rob anything from the scene.  I could also understand what Frank was saying. Not so much with Hugo. There are still a few lines of dialogue I can't quite make out. So then they go and let Frank do Meggy's voice on the videogame. Oye vey.

Personally, as much as I like Hugo Weaving, this is one thing I definitely could have done without changing.  If ever you find yourself with Frank Welker working for you, and you think he should change his voice...guess what, he can!  He's that damn good!  The man is one of the most versatile voice actors in history, he could have made a subtle change or two and kicked major ass.

I just never liked Frank Welker's Megatron even as a kid.  I realized after rewatching an episode in Beast Wars (I grew up more on this), that Frank's Megatron just sounded like a chain smoker and not evil.  Hugo's just sounds evil.  Oh and I'm the opposite... I can't understand a single word of the old Megatron.

EDIT:  Frank better do Soundwave though.

Not saying he didn't. Hugo's voice is versatile and, depending on his role, almost melodic. I'm mostly just saying that replacing Frank with him was an entirely subjective decision, not a technical one as Bay keeps insisting. Just because he couldn't put the live action Megatron with Frank's vocals doesn't mean the rest of us couldn't.

Just Some Guy

So when this was announced I said to myself, "Self, that is going to suck hardcore.  You know it now, you don't need to see it to know this.  It's Michael "Couldn't edit together a coherent scene to save his life" Bay directing.  Just walk away and let it go."

And so I did.  I didn't pay attention to the movie at all, didn't see it, didn't listen to anyone talk about it.  Then there's this.  So I went out and bought the movie and watched it before the riffing commenced.

:gouge:

It was actually worse than I was expecting.  Nothing in that movie made sense even once you accept the premise that giant transforming alien robots have come to earth to fight.  Nothing.  If you couldn't find a continuity error, logical hole, chunk of hideously bad dialog, or just plain wooden acting at least once every fifteen seconds then you just weren't paying attention.  (That's continuity error in the film making sense like having the autobots hide in front of a lit house that they just knocked the power out to and turned out the lights on or having a robot go from standing around accessing data in one shot to being in the middle of combat the next (and how did he manage to throw two tanks and a helicopter from two different directions AT THE SAME TIME!! (Hey, Bay, just because they're not on screen doesn't mean that they can move around out of frame instantly! (GAH!  THE MOVIE WAS SO BAD IT'S MADE ME OVER PARENTHESIZE!))).)

*shrugs* I thought it was incredibly entertaining.

GalvaTRION, I thaught about doing that, too. But didn't and severely regretted it. Ratatouillie was one of the best movies of the year.
Even Street Fighter was better than Transformers, purely from the fact you could SEE what was happening on the screen. Although that is a very narrow margin.
Plus, Raul Julia hamming it up so much like he's a long lost relative of Porky Pig, while hitting video game console style buttons has a certain insane charm. John Turturro hamming it up and then getting peeed on, does not.

You guys should know this. Why can't I see the quicktime video that Reductio_ad_absurdum posted? It just shows a Q with a ? on it. I have the latest version of Quicktime.

I liked it too. Either way, its Micheal Bay's best film by far.

The one thing i hated about it though was its lame humor. Any scene with Shia's parents was annoying ( especially when they asked him if he was masturbating which was quite possibly one of the biggest WTF?! moments I've ever seen in a movie ), the eccentric military agent was also annoying and made Jar Jar cower in terms of annoyingness, and I thouroughly hated the scene where Bumblebee pisses on the annoying military agent.

But I still liked the film. Its not a film to be taken seriously.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
