Since everyone's got their own speculation, I've got mine.

DVD downloads will be ISO files for easy burning.  Several freeware programs handle the ISO format in addition to almost all paid burner programs.  The DVD's will be 3-3.5 gigs in size, approximately the size of a MST3K Rhino release.  They will cost about $10-$15 each.  Downloads will be handled by direct download.  BitTorrent is definately possible, and would be a wise cost cutting procedure.  Archival would be very possible, the distributor would merely have to assign their high end servers as seeders, thus maintaining user throughput even with low seeder and leecher count.  I believe this is similar to what Blizzard does with WoW updates.

Printed DVD's will be professionally made and will cost about $20-$25.  They might be available in stores eventually, depending on demand and distributor, but will be available online only at first.

That's all my guesstimation and speculation for now.  I suppose we'll all know for sure in less than a month.

lol so how many DAP people are involved then?

It's just me and the other guy, BathTub.

Guys, this is not DAP related AT ALL. Downloads will not be offered through eDonkey, DAP is not affiliated with this in any way. I just happen to be a DAP regular.

I met Joel out here several months ago in LA, and we became friends. Joel got me involved with the project because of my connection to the MST fanbase, but now I'm a writer and publicist for the project. I enlisted the other DAP member for help building the website because I'm not terribly well versed in that junk. I chose a DAP member because I knew he'd be excited about the project, and I've known the guy for a long time, so I knew he'd do good work.

No matter what the final details are, you can't be anything less than impressed and optimistic about this. Sounds like they're aiming to please just about everybody.

Since no one else seems to want to ask questions, I will.  Feel free to hedge or hint where the answers are secret and/or still undetermined.

1) Specific format and size?

2) Direct downloads, P2P, streaming, actual pressed DVDs, or all of the above?

3) Price range?

4) Name of film?  Okay, I acknowledge you're not going to answer that one, even if you know.  How about some hints about genre and original release date?  Have I heard of any of the actors involved?

I can't get too into the details, as things aren't 100% hammered out yet. But check the website, because the most recent update talks about the methods we're probably going to offer. It's all through a distributor site. I think we want to do just download & stream, but pressed DVDs are a possibility. As for price, the speculation of $10-$15 is about right. We haven't settled yet 100% on that either, but I don't think it'll be more than $15.

I can't give the name of the film, nor can I give any hints as to what it is. But, it is a total MST3K type movie -- really bad but really awesome at the same time. I firmly believe this project and Rifftrax will peacefully coexist, as we're doing totally different types of movies. There's no reason for everyone who loves Rifftrax to also get hooked up with CT. We're all big fans of Mike & Kevin & Bill, et al, and we're not looking to take away any of their business -- we're thrilled with their success and wish them nothing but continued success. I am a Rifftrax fan for sure!

Heh, looking back it's pretty funny that someone said "DAP" and then everyone else said "eDonkey! NOOOOOOOO!!!". Sorry for hopping into the jumping-to-conclusions bandwagon. This thread is overflowing with speculation.

Yeah, our distribution method will, to paraphrase Winamp, really whip the eDonkey's ass.

Which, in turn, paraphrases the immortal Wesley Willis.

But of course! Mr. Willis certainly isn't dead in my heart. I really relate, as my mother does smoke crack rocks*.

I'd be curious to know what everyone over at CT thinks about the whole piracy thing, considering they are working with members of the DAP. Certainly, DAP's original intentions were pure, and encouraged during the time when it was taped TV shows or nothing, but now that Rhino has many of the episodes available, the existence of DAP (for those episodes at least) becomes more questionable.

Please note, I am not trying to insinuate anything, nor am I trying to insult any of the people over at DAP... I'm just genuinely curious if those types of conversations have come up and what the overall thought process is about piracy etc over at CT.

Thanks for answering the questions.....just a thought but pressed dvd's imo is a must. Most people will probably want it that way. Or even if they are just dvd r's who cares. But people like the packaging the dvd, etc. Personally I want and like the MPG4 option for dling it onto a iPod video and playing it that way......hope you guys don't scrap that option.

The episodes that Rhino releases get pulled from DAP.

I agree.  I reauthor all my rifftrax through a home burner, and I don't use sharecrow or any other programs.  I'd much rather have a disk with the cover art from you guys and I'd be willing to pay more than the downloadible versions.  I don't think I'll be buying them in another format.

MikeKz

I wouldn't mind paying a little more for an actual DVD or DVD-R if they were made available by Cinematic Titanic.  And it's not just because my internet connection sucks.  Even if I download it, I would still prefer to watch the riffed movie on my tv than on my computer.

They are going to be downloadable DVDs that you burn yourself and then watch on your system of choice...

I personally would rather have an actual DVD as well, but mostly because none of the computers in my house has a DVD burner.
