Then... I'm really glad I came back to the forum because I lost some friends today. I still don't completely understand how all this happened. I didn't want to play the blame game or jump to conclusions. I know one thing for sure-- If you've got a problem with anything I say, you need to come and talk to me about it. It doesn't matter if you think I've hurt your feelings. If I did something offensive, tell me it was so that I know to never to do it again. Friends for me are in short supply so it's always important to settle things and settle them quickly so there isn't this buildup of animosity on either side. Sigh... this has been a sad day.

I'm sorry that you lost friends today.  That is always difficult. :(  And I fully agree with what you said, if people have a problem with something I say or do, it is their responsibility to tell me.

This seems pretty optimistic

I don't necessarily expect it to happen - it is just that I don't take responsibility for other people's inability to communicate.

It isn't anyone else's responsibility to communicate their feelings. And Soguru can tell you, I do express my feelings to him. I don't let things fester....unless you are a co-worker, then I shut the hell up.

My comment may not have been clear out of the context of the full conversation.  Soguru had said that there were problems because others weren't telling him what they were thinking about him (in relation to something he may/may not have done).  That, even when he asked.  I was agreeing with him about his not taking it on himself if they couldn't tell him what it was.  So I was just saying that was good, because under those circumstances it was the responsibility of the other person to communicate if they had a problem with something he did/didn't do.

People don't have to share their feelings with anyone.  But if they are friends, and they have ANY courtesy toward someone they consider a friend, then, yes, communication about something bothering them in a relationship (if they wish the relationship to continue) is their responsibility - not that of the person on the 'receiving end'.

In a relationship like a friendship, it is the responsibility of each person to communicate if they wish the relationship to remain stable.  If one stops that, then the potential dissolution of the friendship is on them, not on some real or imagined slight they think originated with the other person.  Because if they are unwilling to talk about what did or didn't happen, and how they felt about it, then there is no way for any explanation or reparation to be made (if appropriate).

Sorry, Soguru, this got off into a discussion of 'appropriate behavior between people who care about one-another', rather than staying focused on your difficulty.  I'm sorry the situation you were in made you sad and that you felt like a creep.

I always thought it was because his world view had been shattered. He put everything he was into a strict interpretation of the law, and dedicated himself to bringing a "dangerous criminal" to justice. That criminal eventually showed him mercy and saved his life. After that Javert felt paralyzed. He couldn't fail in his mission, and yet he couldn't bring himself to capture or kill the man who wasn't what he thought he was.

Have never read the novel, maybe there is something deeper to it.

It's so hard for me to read or get into reading. I need to go to my eye doctor again some time.

Looks like we're getting a Rifftrax release tomorrow.

Miku Fan

Eh?  Why do you say that?  A shark tweet or something?

Conor's tweet.  The only hint that he gave about the release was that it was going to be utterly insane.  That and the next three (tomorrow's included) would cover almost every range of the bad movie spectrum.
