Did you like the first Cloudy?  I loooooooooooooved it so I think I may have enjoyed 2 just because I was happy spending more time with the characters

That's how I felt towards the sequel. I liked it more than it likely deserves, just because I was so happy to have the world back (well, and I'm a sucker for food puns).

That said, I still think the sequel is pretty decent, even as I do my best to look at it objectively. It's just nowhere near the anarchistic masterclass of the original.

John Carter - I also enjoyed this quite a bit. Great pulpy fun for the most part. Seems like the film was doomed though. Would add this series to my audiobook backlog if I can find a decent set.

I read the first one and liked it, about half way through the second one I got very bored with it and gave up.

I also thought John Carter was an under-rated film. I read the books when I was a kid, as I read every pulp sci-fi/fantasy writer, especially series...

Now, it has been a really long time, but as I remember it, the movie seemed to combine the first TWO books in the series, "John Carter of Mars" and "John Carter and the Princess of Mars" does that sound right?

Anyway, except for the obligatory cutesy/Disney frog creature, which I do not remember from the books, (but was very well rendered, I must admit, actually all of the CGI was very impressive, and I don't like CGI...), it seemed fairly faithful or at least tried to be. It's a a shame it almost bankrupted Disney.

I wish someone would do an "Elric of New Melnibone" movie! That would rock! STORMBRINGER! I loved those books.

John Carter, who the hell is that? Oh? He's from Mars? Well, why didn't you say so in the first place?

Yes, it was a weird mistake for Disney to take the "..of Mars" out of the title... "John Carter of Mars" is a title that makes you interested, right? I think more people would have had their interests piqued if they had kept the full title.

I don't know what they were thinking, there, marketing-wise....

From what Ive heard the movie sucked like a Hoover, so keeping the original name probably wouldnt have saved it from being a steaming turd.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Eh, I'd call it an interesting failure

They were probably thinking that it made the movie sound like an old fashioned outdated sci-fi story from the 50's when every alien invasion story was about Martians. Even when you're dealing with adapting an old book, sounding old doesn't get you far in Hollywood.

So brutal. What have I ever done to you, Ronin, to make you treat me so disrespectfully... Even as I am Godfather to your only son, still, you don't speak to me with respect. HA!

Well, of course, you are right. Either you are in or you are out. If Disney wanted to do the project they could have made it work. Lots of people believe that NASA has covered up the idea of intelligent life on Mars for years. Most of the sheep would have bought that, (The Face on Mars... all that crap...)

Or they should have passed on the project as they should have with "The Lone Ranger" but, whatever...

They were fun books to read when you are a kid. Get over yourself.

Is it any different than the funny-books about super-heroes that the whole world worships?

No, it really wasn't THAT bad... it wasn't like AWESOME! But it was pretty cool. I mean, it wasn't as good as, say, a TRANSFORMERS, movie but it was a fun thing to watch....

I'm simply reporting on the thinking of the average studio executive idiot, I never claimed to agree with their reasoning.

Half of the problem is that people went by what they heard and didn't watch it themselves.
FINE
