wow, thats expensive.

I only charge $100 to do a Windows re-install...and that includes doing all the updates and backup up data and putting it back.
Damn, I do it for free for people I know.

You're such a slut.

A few months back, a friend of mine who's family runs an optomatrist office, his father had his computer rebuilt for $1600.. It was upgraded to a Pentium 3 1.8ghz processor, with 2 - 256 DDR sticks of memory, and what ever motherboard I have no clue..
It has been taken back to him 3 times since; each time being charged $150.00 and it's still not right! They keep going back to him cause he's a 'friend' of their family ::)

Damn! With friends like that, I'd rather work with my enemies ???

Sounds like the kind of folks who would charge $100 to fix a VCR

OK. So Internet Explorer keeps crashing on me. I'm running Windows Vista so it won't let me uninstall/reinstall IE7. It only crashes when I go to certain websites. Just as an example, it crashes when I go to http://www.telltalegames.com/strongbad but every other part of the site seems to work fine. A lot of myspace pages seem to crash it, but others don't. It seems to be certain sites with certain types of embedded flash that I can't pinpoint. Anyone heard of anything like this and know how to fix it?

(Yes, I know I should just run Firefox, and Firefox can visit the sites no problem, but I'm set in my ways and I want my Internet Explorer to work properly)

B-but...Firefox is so much easier. Really. It is.  Just give in, you know you want to.

It wouldn't be an issue for us (or at least me) if not for the fact that there's several shared .dll files in IE's registry and Paintshop Pro, thusly PSP started crashing too once IE started. So for the sake of my digital artwork, we have to fix this.

We'll try your suggestions, RVR. Hopefully this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm on Pak's machine now. My powers are quite potent.

Yeah. Despite the fact that I don't consider myself completely inept when it comes to computers (far from an expert, mind, but experienced enough to install my own hardware, diagnose basic problems, etc), I somehow still have the same track record as someone who doesn't know what they're doing at all and still think little elves run the machine inside the case.  :P

Well, I've decided to upgrade a case for one of my computers..
Well actually, it was a spur of the moment thing, as my wife's brother; my brother-in-law, is heading to Mexico in a couple of weeks, and since my computer down there got fried from the heat & unstable voltage, he offered to carry some replacement parts for mine down there, but getting them installed will be an issue since I'm not gonna be there till probably December, but then I thought; why not just have him take another computer down there if I build it before he goes?! Yeah! That's It!!
The blue Apevia micro ATX case..

I have is just small enough to fit in a carry-on suitcase perfectly, so I'm taking all the guts (motherboard, processor, memory,  harddrives, & video card) out and putting it in this..
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5713/cst-531/Sunbeam_UFO_Acrylic_Cube_Case_-_UV_Blue_ACUF-HUVB.html?tl=g1c9
and then just build another basic system and put in the blue Apevia case for him to take to Mexico to replace mine down there instead.

Oh yeah.. Already working on that option as well, but to have something Permanent down there is just another option to fill 8)

I think RVR's parents were murdered by a laptop and that explains his aversion.

Actually, they have my laptop..
I gave it to my parents when they retired a couple years ago, and I just never replaced it :-[

But the stuff he uses a computer for on vacation could easily be handled by a wal-mart laptop.

I'm looking into a Dell 600 Series currently, and my friend can get a substantial discount through his work for one, so I;ll probably be getting one of those before I head back south o the boarder in December 8)

Fortis

I like those new Dell Red computers...not sure if they are any good though.
