Hey, seriously Principal, look... Rotten Tomatoes is fucked up. That's a given, because its ratings are based on community consensus. You know the saying, "a mob is only intelligent as its dumbest member," right? Well there you go... and honestly, I think that some people rate shitty movies high just for the sake of badness. I mean... PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE was given a rating of 100% (Spinal Tap is 97% BTW). Clearly someone is being a wiseass.

But we really need to embrace the fact that people have different tastes. It is not a personal attack if someone likes something that you don't. There's no call to get so worked up about it... just laugh at the sillyness of it, and move on. There are more worthy things in the world to be angry at than an Indiana Jones movie getting a higher rating than you personally feel it deserves, based on the evaulation of random schmucks on the Internet.

I loved Zoolander. I fucking HATE Ben Stiller, and Owen Wilson, but I loved that god damn movie. I get made fun of for it all the time, even by people who like movies like "Dude, Where's My Car?" But I don't care... it just had something weirdly endearing to it. It's okay to have different tastes... even if they don't fall under your personal umbrella of value. Dial the rage down a bit, man... :)

Me and my giggling ewok lover laugh at your silly thread.  ;D

Okay... i'm very sorry I brought it up.  But sometimes its hard for me to know when you guys are being serious versus when you guys are severely exaggerating.

This opinion of Zoolander is shared by me and a lot of people I know.  It has something that other Ben Stiller movies don't.  Though sadly I have no idea what that is.

My knee-jerk reaction was to hate Zoolander, but when I sat and watched it one lazy evening in a hotel room somewhere, I found I really enjoyed it. :^)

I found myself watching AMC last month for 6 hours trying to understand "Once Upon a Time in America."  That movie was so bad, so angry, so awful, I had to jump online and find out if there were others who felt the same way.

On RottenTomatoes, everyone was all "Oh this film is genius.. blah blah" but no one could really give an eloquent explaination why, just fluff about relationships.  Anyway, I went to one of only two people who gave it a thumbs down, and found Christopher Null, a movie critic I hadn't heard of before but who's opinions on this film were really similar to mine.

So, I guess I'm saying you take the good with the bad etc.. with this site.

It's simple. Zoolander is one of very few films in which Ben Stiller doesn't play a decent, likable guy who gets shit on for two hours. Because decent, likable guys getting shit on isn't funny - it's life. And Robert DeNiro is NOT FUNNY. Owen Wilson, however, is. And David Duchovny as a washed-up hand model? Well played, Zoolander.

I respect your thoughts on OUaTiA, and I'm not sure if I'd go so far as genius, but I thought it was a very good movie.

But I really like Leone's style of films (Once upon a time in the West is right up there on my all time favorite movies), so you may have to experience more of his films to really get this one (and it's actually quite different from his previous stuff).

It's pretty much a story about one man's journey through life, and all of the mistakes he's made and the consequences of those mistakes.  And the ending can be read many ways, so there's not a "The End" moment.  It's like Leone is saying that even at the end of this film, humanity is still a mystery.

This was a film that I had to watch about 4 times before I really started understanding what was going on - and at 4 hours a pop, that took a while... lol
Narrator: Johnny even got to the midway for a ride, but the fun didn't last nearly long enough.

Servo (as Narrator): Johnny's car rolled and burned.

Yeah I really did try to get it, and watched the entire movie, and I do like Leone's movies.  Everyone of his movies has a scene I really don't like, but I'm able to get past it and enjoy the rest of the movie.  It's just so hard to get into a film that is essentially filled with horrendously reprehensible characters, you don't know who to root for, and if and when they are redeemed, the bad things they've done are still upsetting.

You know, it's probably the context that I'd seen DeNiro lately, after watching "Mean Streets", "Taxi Driver" and this movie somewhat close together, it starts to make you angry haha.  Either way, I'd like to give it another shot, but it is just so long haha :)

I hear ya.  I could definitely do without the Rape Scene.  I guess Leone needed to really put Noodles on the path to Hell, but I would have rather seen it done differently.

Now see, if you'd hated Once Upon a Time in the West, my head may have just exploded.   ;)
