I was just over at Rottentomatoes.com and was curious about the rating that Indiana Jones and the temple of doom has... and my jaw dropped to my toes when I saw it had a 91% tomato-meter rating. I am trying so hard to hold back the filtihiest, most wretchedly horrible fantasies I can imagine about slaughtering movie critics. The only thing that really stops me is this... How can this be?! It is so clearly a very awful and bad movie! It's like the goddamn Phantom Menace and Attack of the clones! Although both have ratings in the 60-something percent range, that's just f'ing ridiculous because both those movies suck just as much shit as your average mst3k movie!!! I mean dammit I don't think there's a single positive thing I can find to say about Temple of doom! Yeah it's cool to see Indy kicking ass but it sure as hell isn't even one-ten-thousandth the movie Raiders of the lost ark was! I am insulted that this goddamn movie should have such a higher rating than other movies I love like Batman Begins, The Simpsons Movie, Monty Python's the meaning of life and The Untouchables. I mean what the shit huh?! I think Rotten Tomatoes has their head stuck so far up their own goddamn ass that they have shit on the soles of their feet.

(shrug) I enjoyed Temple of Doom quite a bit. Tastes differ.

Okay... now the only explanation for your remark... the ONLY possible explanation is this: you're trying to piss me off.

wow!  While i agree that ROLA was better than TOD, TOD wasn't near as bad as the first two Star Wars.  Everybody has the one movie that inexplicably   crawls under their skin.  Plus i could really care less about a movie Tomato-rating.  Many-a-movie that I've thouroughly enjoyed have gotten a "rotten" score,  but i don't let some innocuous website dictate to me what movies i like, and those that i loathe.

I'm not, I'm just so disgusted that that stupid movie got such a high rating, it's a damn disgrace if you ask me.

Find a critic you like that tends to agree with your opinions of movies and stick with him/her.  An average is only a number.  A number tells you nothing about why a movie is good or bad.  And that average includes reviews from people who's tastes are different from yours.  An average is just as useful as me telling you "you're wrong, TOD pwns!"

Ah. That's what sparked that.

No, I really did enjoy it. Yes, there are elements that could have been better. (I'm looking at you, Mrs. Speilberg.) But the film worked for me. The action scenes were very well done and the parts that weren't action scenes weren't long enough to bother me. It was a well done action film, and that's all that I was looking for in watching it..

And even with faults, it's light years beyond films like "Firewalker" or "King Solomon's Mines".

I like all three of them almost equally.  I like that Temple was a darker movie than Raiders and Last Crusade had Sean Connery.   I find it harder to understand your hatred of this movie than a 91% rating of it.

Two words my friend, "Short Round".

My doctor's last name is actually Jones so we always talked like Short Round when we had doctor appointments.   He doesn't bother me at all.  He didn't even cross my mind.

No, that's what I mean.  I love Short Round.  We used to talk like him all the time.  Although it was hard to remember which lines came from Indiana Jones and which came from Goonies.

I like ALL the Indiana Jones movies. Temple of Doom is a fun watch. :^)

One thing to remember is that rottentomatoes isn't  a balanced judge of films older than the internets, since it's numbers come from online reviews, and no too many people  are going to go out of their way to review older stuff on a consistent basis if they hate it.

As they say on the streets, "My Bad."

I'm just going to point out that Temple of Doom was pain on toast. I love the other two Indiana Jones movies, but DAMN what were they thinking?
