OK, the confirmed store date is Tuesday, December the 9th. A regular edition, a steelbook edition, and Blu-Ray edition (all selling for somewhere in the area of $30, depending on the store) should be released that day.

I dunno what exactly it is, it's just what the paper said; I assume it's the special edition DVD in a hard tin case (like the Texas Chain Saw Massacre special edition). When Iron Man comes out on the 30th of this month, it's going to be available in a Steelbook edition, so that'll probably give a good insite to what The Dark Knight will be like.

I hope that's what it is.  I bought my copy of "The Departed" at Best Buy and it was exclusive to that store, came in a kick-ass METAL case, and artwork cards from the film.  As long as this movie is released, I'll buy it regardless.
A spell was cast and the sky turned red.  The Angel's heart froze to ice.  Roses of blood from an innocent soul.  On the plain lies an Angel dead.

Doctor Who?

Am I the only one who hopes this is one movie that they do release an unrated edition of at some point?

It seems like they had to make some cuts to get a PG13 rating and i would like the chance to see if the movie is better or worse with those cuts.

Yes, but why Tuesday specifically?
The TV critic in our paper answered this one in a Q&A column he does a couple Sundays ago.

They want to get the movies out as early in the week as possible but....

They can't send anything UPS (which is how they're shipped) over the weekend and not eveyone gets their package delivery at the same time of the day.  So if they made it Monday, some stores could have it while others are waiting and then would have to take it straight out of the boxes and then onto the floor....

So the fairest thing was to make it Tuesday so that the all the stores could have them in hand by Monday night and ready to go out on the floor.

can't get enough Dark Knight?

well good news
QuoteWarner Bros is looking to make "The Dark Knight" an Oscar-winning film by re-releasing it in January, during the height of the Academy Awards voting season. "It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider said.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX executives about the prospect of restoring the Christian Bale starrer to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It's uncertain if "Dark Knight" also will re-appear in conventional venues at that point.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film's huge commercial and critical success has spurred talk of possible Oscar nominations for its director, producers and cast -- most specifically Bale's co-star, Health Ledger, for the late actor's edgy performance as the Joker.

To date, "Dark Knight" has rung up about $512 million domestically and $440 million internationally, including more than $55 million in IMAX grosses. A pre-Oscars re-release would help assure its topping $1 billion worldwide, and any traction with nominations or wins would likely mean even greater box office.

Do you think "The Dark Knight" can surpass the $600.8 million domestic take by "Titanic"?

Actually, from what I've read on this, there weren't any cuts. The movie got PG-13 as it was (and I think that says a bit about the MPAA, but that's beside the point).

I approve of re-releasing movies in theaters and taking longer to put out the DVD.  Good call, Nolan.

If they're just talking about re-releasing it in giant screens there's no reason they'd have to postpone the dvds, the novelty of seeing it on a four story high screen will still appeal to the rabid fans even if they could just go home and watch it on their tvs.

Well, the movie's already made eleventy kajillion dollars.  What's wrong with a few extra bucks?
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Oh ok.

I assumed that when we didn't see any blood at some points those were cuts for the PG 13 rating,a lot of movies do that these days.

I would love to see it released.

I like the idea of being able to see the movie on the big screen again.

Also it may take out the big stinking T if they do that.

Come to think of it I will more movies would get released,I would love to see Star trek 2 on the big screen.

Okay, so the IMAX filmed parts were great, but not necessarily worth the extra few dollars for admission. sigh.

Relaxing Dragon

Which parts were IMAX filmed? I can never tell, and I'm not a big fan of going to the IMAX theater unless I know it's worth it.

Yes... yes, that would make sense, wouldn't it :-[

Now I need to see it again, because I forgot which parts weren't widescreen.
