Agreed.  I don't hate Apple; once their products go through a few generations, they are reliable (and really, really cool).  The AT&T/iPhone merger is crap, though.

Not being able to run 3rd party software was the thing that stopped me from caring.  You can't even write an applescript for it.  The software on my phone is the only thing I hate about it, so the only reason to get an iPhone would be the software for me.

Yeah - Virgin Mobile is on the old billing software (the one that Sprint's jackass software developers DIDN'T write). Everyone else (including Nextel now) is on Sprint's in-house billing software - which stinks on hot ice. And the NEW new billing platform they are shifting everyone over to now is even worse. I don't even like to think about it. Thank Golf that I'm not affiliated with the service department anymore.

My "New Every Two" from Verizon comes up in December... right around when all the cool NEW phones come out for Xmas.

My plan is to get some kind of SmartPhone that runs on Windows Mobile, and includes GPS features. Then it'll pretty much be the PC version of an iPhone, except you'll be able to run your own apps on it. So if I'm home in NY and the website starts getting really slow, I can just login to PuTTy on my phone and reset the server from there - all without having to touch a computer.

I get overwhelmed when looking at cellphones, though, because I look at features I don't even use.  I got a digital camera last year, and when it came time to upgrade the phones, I got one with a camera.  I ended up never using the camera phone one, or any of the internet features, so I went back to my older, less-amazing phone.  But I love it - even if it's very simple.

The best phone I ever had was so basic (by today's standards, anyway).  It was a stick phone (as opposed to a flip phone), no camera, no internet, no nothin', but sturdy as an ox and great reception (which I realize has a lot to do with the service provider, but I've had phones that got crappy reception in areas loaded with towers).  I actually dropped this bad boy in a puddle in the middle of the night (in the middle of winter) and came out the next morning to find it underneath a layer of ice still lit up.  I dried it out and it still worked perfectly.  It was a bad-ass muhf*ckin' piece of equipment.

I lent to to a now-ex-boyfriend once, though, and it somehow wound up underneath the tires of a moving car.  I still miss that phone.  I do not, however, miss the ex-boyfriend.

I have to say that people who have gigantic pictures in their signatures that take up more space than their actual post are starting to piss me off... in a non-violent kinda' way.
