Although, come to think of it, the little girl in The Bad Seed didn't have evil powers.  Never mind.

No but she was evil incarnate. Excellent film

Junkyard

I still managed to be wrong. It's my gift.

What about the "someone's after you" cliches?

If someone is trying to catch you, you will drop your keys under the car, or you won't be able to turn the key in the lock in time, or you will get into the car but it won't start. Or if you are trying to get into your house, you will get the door open, get through it, and just as you try to push the door closed, the killer will stick their leg or arm through the door and block you.

Or, the killer is IN your car, cleverly hiding in plain site on the floor of the backseat, but you don't see him, because you're a blind retard, and he rises up behind you to strangle you as soon as you start the car, complete with an in-the-rearview-mirror shot.

Classic... :P

Ever seen The Bad Seed?  Or the Twilight Zone episode with the little jerk who banishes people to the corn field?

Things don't start out as cliches the first time they're used.  It didn't start to become a cliche until "Carrie"....which led to "The Fury" then "Firestarter" and so on.

Junkyard

I think you missed the big "someone's after you" cliche:
Breaking a heel.

Regarding the aliens in "Signs" being water soluble... that was totally ripped off from Invader Zim!  For those who haven't seen it, Zim is an alien who's on a mission to destroy/conquer Earth (whichever comes first, I suppose).  But in one episode, called the Wettening, Zim discovers that water burns his skin.  The difference is, Zim is well-established as being stupid enough to not realize the planet he's trying to invade is filled with a substance that could kill him with prolonged exposure.

Wait, Invader.... Zim?
Well, that explains why I saw

this in a deleted scene in the Signs Special Edition DVD!
Ha! Now it aaaallll makes sense!

I thought that was a parody of Signs.  :D  I didn't know Zim came first.

Ooh, good catch. Yeah, that's another classic.

And of course the obvious "trip over nothing". There's also the "suddenly forget how doorknobs work" and "person able to save you is wearing headphones and oblivious to your peril".

I think horror movie cliches is a whole other thread in itself, but while we're enumerating, I have another one:
I know it's classic, but the whole "You thought I was dead but look I opened my eye, I'm gonna have a sequel" thing has gotten old.

I love that one especially when it coincides with a woman camping or hiking or doing something else in a rural area, and she's dressed in designer clothing that cost more than my car.  Hell, I don't go into my backyard without assuming that I will be attacked by some backwoods homicidal-maniac, I sure as hell wouldn't go camping in a skirt and heels.

I know.  I'm more surprised now when the end of a horror movie comes and doesn't bring an opening for a sequel with it.

Junkyard

Yeah, it's either a missing body or a last second eye opening.

Regarding missing bodies, like in Halloween: How much you want to bet he just crawled into the nearest bush?

That was always my thought, and I would have torched the house and lawn just to be safe.

But then some might consider me mildly paranoid.

Junkyard

I'd... like to disagree, but I guess you carrying that flamethrower with you whenever you take out the trash MAY be a little paranoid.
