back on topic.

Invasion looks like it could be good, although Nicole Kidman playing someone who has to try to seem emotionless is a bit of a stretch.

I didn't know this until recently, but "The Others" has received something like 7.5 or 8 out of ten stars, or something ridiculously high like that on imdb....

I thought "Others" was pretty good but the high rating kind of shocked me.

Oh - I should have posted the upcoming JJ Abrams project as one of the soon-to-be-released horror titles. It looks awesome.

I noticed that the trailer credited JJ Abrams as a producer on the project.  Everything I've read up until this point keeps making it sound like he's directing.  I hate it when studios do that (ie. Quentin Tarantino Presents/ Wes Craven Presents etc.).   I'm going to be a little more cautious with my optimism on this one.  On the other hand, the screenplay was written by a guy who's worked with JJ on Alias and Lost, and also did some writing for Buffy.
I've sort of fused Flashdance with MC Hammer shit.

Scream actually feels like a bad remake of the 1980s spoof Student Bodies. ;)
Someone who remembers Student Bodies?!?!?!?   :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

As far as "comedic horror movies" goes - remember that Hobgoblins was meant to be a spoof, too.  That didn't work out too well (except for us MSTies).  That's why I appreciate the ones that have worked well.  It's obviously a very exact science to make one.

Really surprised there doesn't seem to be a lot of outrage about the Rob Zombie Halloween here....or is everyone just looking forward to the Rifftrax of it?

Just more proof that Paramount hasn't got a freaking clue as to the great stuff they have but never released to DVD....   How much you want to bet they're afraid of the eggplant scene....

My outrage at needless remakes ran out a while ago.  The only exception is for the remake of John Carpenter's 'The Thing'.  While the movie itself was a remake, I just think it is one of the greatest horror movies ever.  The effects, even by today's standards, hold up incredibly well.  Everything just works so great in that movie.  But it'll happen one day.

I flipped past 'Christine' the other day on TV and realized that that movie is ripe for a remake.

I'm pretty sure that I Know Who Killed Me is a remake as well, of D.O.A (Dead on Arrival).  But yeah, I Am Legend looks pretty awesome.

DOA was so great until that stupid "boi-yoi-yoing" sound effect played whenever he sees a woman.  It completely ruined the movie for me.
The trailer for I Am Legend was on G4 a few weeks ago, got us all psyched about it.

Has anyone seen that movie with Jack Palance and Richard Widmark  - Panic in the Streets?  Or that movie where Harry Belafonte is the only guy left in NYC?  I'm pretty sure these are all the same idea of mass illness etc..  But, they're pretty entertaining.

Really, that is the exact sound I make when I see a pretty woman.   Sometimes even an "ow-uh-gah" sound comes out.   Could explain why I am still single.

Panic in the Streets is a great movie.  I think it was Widmark's first "heroic" role after playing some (awesome) psychos.

I'm actually really looking forward to this film.  Rob Zombie has released a lot of info about this movie on his MySpace (as well as a lot of pictures).  The more I see the more I look forward to this movie.

While I do love the original Halloween it's obvious that the movie has many flaws.  So, I'm not down on the remake.  Besides, if it was a choice between a remake and Halloween 9 how many of you'd rather see Halloween 9?  At least this way the series can be restarted and the sequels have a chance to be better than a majority of the other ones.  Bring on the remake, I say!
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

But that's another reason I'm not thrilled about a "remake"....

No movie franchise has known when to bow out gracefully....especially this one.  H20 was the perfect time to say, "Thanks, it's been fun".  But they had to go on and make another while completely screwing up the ending of H20 - which made no sense.  Since when has Michael Meyers ever hidden his resilient self?   Play possum, yeah but....

This remake now threatens a whole new string of crappy sequels.   And as much as I've loved Malcolm McDowell, he's no Donald Pleasance.

J-Proof

All's I can say is Michael never really scared me.... I dunno if it's cuz the movies are old or if it's just cuz I think he's a poorly written character, but I think updating the first movie is a good thing for the modern generation.

I've never understood the outrage fanboys have for remakes, besides the hilarious fact that every film suddenly becomes a 'classic' when a remake is suggested (although I think Halloween IS a classic) it's just so tiresome.  If you don't want to see a movie, don't.  A remake (or sequel) being good or bad has NO effect on the original.

Trust me, I'm no "fanboy".

It's just that I've looked at the plot synopsis of the Zombie "remake" and he could have just as easily made a completely original movie.   It's just that they wouldn't have the name recognition to put fannies in the seats on opening day.

And, this movie won't ruin the original or any of the decent sequels - anymore than the bad sequels did.  I can enjoy H20 just fine inspite of the fact that Halloween Resurrection was made.  But I can still wish that they hadn't done it.
