Postal clerk sent to slammer for stealing movies

A former Houston post office clerk was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison Monday for stealing thousands of movies sent through the mail.

Anthony Zuniga, 53, of Houston, was convicted of two counts of mail theft by a postal employee. His sentence includes three years probation and a $4,000 fine.

Last year, the Postal Service received reports from Netflix, a company that rents movies by mail, that an unusually high number of DVDs were missing from the company's box at the 401 Franklin Street post office in Houston. At the time, Zuniga, a 32-year employee, was assigned to that location.

Using surveillance, U.S. Postal Inspectors watched Zuniga steal 122 DVDs from the post office and later found another 8,000 stolen Netflix and Blockbuster DVDs during a search of his home.

He's lucky there were no cartoons among the DVDs he stole, considering it was Houston.

In Texas, they give you the chair for Grand Theft Anime. ;D

Can you just imagine the number of copies of  "The Devil Wears Prada" that man must have had in his house?  :speechless:

Hmmmmm....I wonder which movies he had at home?  Why not just return them eventually?  Or copy them?
A dvd burner could have saved his job.

I work for the Postal Service and pick these disks up all the time.  Netflix, Blockbuster, Greencine, etc.  I have never thought about TAKING them.  Judging by what are the most popular movies on Netflix, you'd probably steal crap and then feel really dirty.  That guy was probably pulling in 70,000 dollars a year plus benefits.  Now he will be sifting through garbage bins behind the Sizzler.
