Tripe

OK so finally saw this and I thought it was thoroughly entertaining. One question about the red matter though:

Since it's evident that a little dab'll do ya, why was Spock carting around a catering pack of the stuff? Was there a deal at Vulcan Costco that he simply couldn't pass up?

Nunyerbiz

Maybe he had to go around and erase all the bastard Kirk children scattered across the universe?

Tripe

He'll be needing another catering pack then  :D

Nunyerbiz

Yea... and those damn Vulcans told me that membership fees were "illogical"... Nothing better than putting those green blooded bitches in their place....

Just saw this a few days ago, when Netflix sent in the disk for the pending Rifftrax.

Good movie.  I probably wouldn't watch it again, except when I watch it with the riff tonight, because the movies which have rewatch value to me are usually more sedate movies.  I'm not big on action movies.

I thought the time travel plot kinda soured it for me overall.  Time travel always felt like a gimmick to me, plus it makes the plot harder to follow.

Did anyone else see Vulcan get destroyed, then think "No big deal.  They'll just collect the dragon balls at the end and fix everything."

Also read over some of the older posts of this thread.  It was kinda interesting to see speculation from two years ago about facts we now know for certain.  Also there was Plastic Self Cleaning Duck's irritating contrarian bitching that has an angering / amusing quality to it.  Nice to see someone invest two years into hating something.

Indeed.  I also have a sneaking suspicion that she doesn't like Star Trek at all.  Not once have i seen her post anything positive about any incarnation of the TV show or series of movies.   That, and she seems to take personal offense to a sub-standard movie or episode.

Oh....I'm finding new things/people to hate....and counting.

And I guess you missed my comments on the last V episode...just for example of something I've mentioned liking.  Or the movie CHUD II. And there's several other examples....

But then, when I do comment on something I think is good I'm told that my taste is shit, so what's the point?

(and as far as not liking Trek at all?  Yeah...that's why I own all of those DVD (and the tapes before them) and read all of those TNG books...)

Doctor Who?

This movie just keeps getting better and better each time I watch it.  Is it perfect?  No but nothing is and it is a really fun ride that has given star trek energy again and it gives the writers a new universe to play in that isn't bogged down with over 40 years of history.

If you hate time travel period i don't know what to tell you but it was the only way to reset thing and i think it was do very well and it was only mentioned about three times you didn't really need to know everything to fallow the story.

Well I don't think you would need to introduce time travel to reset a timeline.  You could just say "Okay, here's the story."  Or maybe not.  Look at the mental gymnastics some people go through to figure out the order of the Legend of Zelda video games.  They did Zelda for NES, then Zelda II for NES, a pretty clear sequel.  Then they did Zelda III for SNES, a clearly stated sequel.  Then, once Ocarina of Time came out, it didn't fit in anywhere, before or after any of the existing games.  Some people assume all the Zelda games are part of one long chain and desperately try to figure out an order.  I just assume that each game is its own self contained universe.

Also, Majora's Mask involved a meteor that was going to destroy the planet in 3 days, and you'd automatically go back to the beginning of the three days every time that happened.  How fucked up is THAT?

No, you're right.

I didn't rave about how wonderful "Garth Merenghi's Darkplace" was when I found it.

I didn't turn someone else on here to "Being Human" when I talked it up.

All I do here is bitch about Trek and Dubya....you can go back though just the threads I've started and even though they're titled and the body of the post is about something else entirely you all know that it's really about those two things because Jewish Carpenter says that's all I talk about, right?

Fuck all of you.

Lovye

For the record then, Doctor Who? is pro-time travel.

well we are not talking about a game made for a few nintendo fan boys9making things only for the fans is what killed star trek in the first place)we are talking about a movie that has to make back $150 million,to do that it has to keep fans happy while starting a new universe and you think fans are bitching now think about what would have happened if they had just made it a prequel set in the same universe.  if they had done that even i would have been mad because then it would have just been a bad prequel that made nonsense of everything that came after it.

I'm glad they did the story and that we got to see Nimoy as Spock one last time.  I never like Unification as his last story.  I thought it was a very good story and it did something else unlike other prequels you know don't know how things are going to turn out.  i cann't wait for 2011.

The history is what makes it a franchise, what makes it Star Trek.

The problem with the last few Trek movies was not the franchise but the horrible scripts they used, there's no reason they couldn't have done a new Trek movie with new writers and directors and not wipe out everything done before.  There was plenty of areas to fit in a new cast, pick up the story after Kirk and crew retire....

If you want a new universe call it something new, come up with new ship designs and new character names...

But the studios now are chicken, no matter how much evidence is out there that people want new stuff to watch they can't get their heads out of the recycle bin.

I still haven't seen the movie, not sure I ever will.
