Doctor Who?

Who approved that outfit any way?

The less said about the Chekov painting though...   :)

Come on... nothing says "quality portrait" better than having the subject's name painted in big bold letters right under his face. I think it could have worked better if they left it up to my imagination... it could have been Chekov or Riker or Happy Spock or Wesley Crusher depending on my mood that day....

Tripe

Shouldn't the sign have read "Trek Fest Velcome"?

Whoops! Spoilers and stuff:

So i've watched Star Trek a couple more times at home, and had a chance to focus on the story a bit more. I did a little searching and found out that apparently Nero was actually imprisoned on the Klingon planet that was just mentioned briefly in the movie. That totally makes sense now.

Usually cuts made for time or whatever actually help to move the story along. But there was just something about Nero's whole character arc that seemed off to me. Anyway, i'm curious to see those scenes on DVD when it's finally released... i can live without the young Kirk stuff, though.

I reminds me of a lot of folk art.

That is interesting. I did think while watching it that they never explained how Nero, who was originally just a grunt miner from what they said, suddenly had the whole ship and crew (of people that were clearly not miners) at his disposal. Did he take it over when he went nuts after Romulus was destroyed?

Well, as has been previously stated, Nero's whole backstory is told in the Star Trek: Countdown graphic novel (whose story was written by the writers of the movie, so I think it counts as canon).  In the graphic novel, the ship Nero has in the movie is a mining ship that gets heavily modified after the destruction of romulus, and the crew in the movie is his crew from when it was a mining ship.

So he was captain of the ship before? I thought he was just a regular miner from what they said in the movie.

How do you know what a "regular miner" is defined as in the future, and on another planet?

I mean that they indicated he was just a member of the mining crew, not specifically the captain of a giant mining ship with a large crew at his command before all that happened.

I took it to mean that the ship was just a mining ship that was nothing special in the future, hence the giant drill.  The ship was vastly superior to anything in the past though.
